Google home stopped working with nest thermostat

Hi. Up until a few days ago, I was able to control the thermostat through voice control via the Google home app. All of a sudden, this speed and the feedback given by Google home is that the nest device is not connected. They are both (Google home and nest thermostat) on the same router network via WiFi at 5ghz. I have tried to factory reset the thermostat. Reset Google home. Reset the modem but nothing works. When I try to add the device to Google home, I get either a error message doing 'unable to start device pairing. Configuration unavailable' or I get asked for the last 4 digits from my nest thermostat serial number but then have no option to enter them (non interactive screen appears). Nothing has changed at my end. Same router, thermostat, Google home etc. When I do get asked at some points to login using my email/password combination, this is not accepted either even though I know it's correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 👍🏽

What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
Are you pairing the Nest Thermostat to the Nest app or the Google Home app?

I am in the same boat. Exact same thing happening. I have a Gen 1 Nest thermostat. It is detecting in the Google home app but when I try to use voice command it says "sorry, something went wrong here" Happening in all my Google minis.

Hi, I have a 3rd generation thermostat. Yes, I've tried pairing it through Google home and the nest app. I either get a configuration error or it asks for the 4 digits of my serial number but then allow me to input the data (non interactive screen). I raised the issue with Google directly over a week ago but still waiting for their UK branch to respond.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the response. To isolate the issue, could you try changing the room where it's setup to in the Google Home app then reboot your Google Home device before trying the voice command again.

Thanks Edward. Tried that. Same result. Another thing that is noticed is that you can change the temperature in the Home App or via voice command. it you can not turn off or change mode in the home app or via voice command. (you can in the Nest app without problem)

Mine isn't in a room on Google home anymore. I deleted it in the hope to restore it from scratch, but now I can't add it back on again, as per the attempts in my earlier posts.

Is bizarre, worked for years and now it's stopped.

Hi. It's a 3rd generation nest thermostat, the one with the heat link.

It was installed some 7 odd years ago.

The message I get is 'Error! Unable to start device pairing. Configuration not available'

Hey all,

Having the EXACT same issue and funny enough mine also started this past Friday. Same time you guys posted about this. A new OTA must be the culprit. I have a Gen 1 thermostat. Worked with my google home app for years without any issues whatsoever. A few days ago it just stopped. Google's response is "something went wrong with entryway" (Entryway is my thermostat). I can access it through the nest app and use it no problem. It shows up in my google home app still and when its on the temp controls and everything shows up in the google home app correctly. I just can no longer control it from the Google app. Doesn't respond to voice commands or manual inputs in the app. Removing it and adding it again does not work. Ive re-connected both devices to the wi-fi and have rebooted both of them including my router multiple times. No luck. Something with the latest update must have happened to cause this IMO.

I also started experiencing problems with my Harmony device a few days before the offshore with the nest, where Google home states telling me my voice could not be recognised (only when using harmony). I recalibrated the voice recognition several times but that didn't work. Finally, I reset harmony, reinstalled Google home app, rebooted the Google nest speaker... And eventually it started working again. But the Google mini in other rooms says it does not recognise my voice when I try and control Harmony from there.

And again, I can't add harmony to the Google home app anymore. I deleted it to try and relink it when I was trying to trouble shoot but now can't link it. It's able to be voice activated and I can control it from the harmony app. I have the same problem as the nest, I get to a certain point, put my email/password in and get told it isn't a match (I have saved passwords so know its correct).

I am having the same issue with the Google Home App and my 1st generation Nest thermostat. Tried turning off the AC yesterday and the screen just flashes like it is processing, but then just reverts to the same mode and temperature. If I change the temp, it will show as changed in the app, but the thermostat does not actually change.

As others have reported, the only way to control the thermostat is via the Nest app. I have tried restarting and resetting with no change.

I am having the same problem. My gen1 Nest thermostat and Google Home worked just fine. Voice controls seamless for the last 3-4 years or so and then all of a sudden "Something went wrong" every time I use ANY voice command. I also cannot control the thermostat from the home app. I cannot remove the thermostat from the home app. I have reset everything from routers to mini's all over the home and nothing makes any difference. Also very frustrating is the lack of resolution to this issue from Google. Google obviously did something to cause a system-wide failure of this integration and they seem to be uninterested in doing anything about it. They only keep telling people "reset the device, reset the thermostat, change it to another room, remove and reimplement the device in the app". This is same same thing Microsoft does with troubleshooting. Everything is clear your cache, close your browser or program or OS and exit, wait then re-enter again. After Microsfot telling us all that same advice over and over for the last 20+ years don't you think we know that already. How about fixing the real issue on your end.

The Home app had an update today. I installed the update that included bug fixes, but there is no change to the behavior. Still cannot use the app to control the Nest Thermostat.

My Nest Thermostat works in Nest App, Google Home app on phone, it works with voice command on my Google home mini, but does not work on my Google Home Max which is connected to the same LAN

It says "sorry that device is not set up yet, you can do that in assistant settings"

Google Mini firmware 1.56.282045

Google Max firmware 1.56.275994

oh and by the way, my Fire Cube Alexa controls the thermostat with voice commands too, I have to use my Alexa to turn my Vizio TV on and off with voice commands, because Google home stopped working with it

It is frustrating that something at their end has changed but there's no fix. To add to it, Harmony is also not being controlled via Google Home. It used to be, and now it says its doing the command but there's no action. The Harmony and thermostat issues started within days of each other but I was eventually able to get Harmony up and running for about 2 weeks, now that has stopped.

Still no fix to this issue. Nest thermostat is supposed to work with Google home, no matter how old the thermostat is. I've tried several routes to try and fix this. One route is to try and reset my password when I'm told that my email/password combination is wrong but whenever I do this, no reset email arrives. I've tried this half a dozen times.

There's no support available on this topic.
