How long can it pre cool? It notes five hours specifically for preheating in settings and info but does not mention a limit for cooling. Why is heating mentioned but not cooling?

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community.

Whenever somebody’s home, your Nest thermostat can use Early-On to start heating or cooling early so that your home reaches the scheduled temperature on time. Simple programmable thermostats only start heating or cooling at the time you scheduled. They don’t take into account how long it takes for your home to heat and cool, so your home doesn’t reach the scheduled temperature until later.

Thanks for the update. The pre-cool would depend on how long your system need to cool your home. Early-On continually adapts to the weather forecast and how fast your home heats up or cools down. It adapts to improve its Time-to-Temperature estimates and keep you comfortable while also helping you save energy.

I understand that. I'm confused about why there are specific settings for limiting pre heat but not precool.

Thanks for clarifying. The setting for limiting preheating would depend on the type of system that you have. You could edit it using the True Radiant feature. You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks for the info, but I don't have a radiator system, so True Radiant doesn't even appear as an option.
