Low Temperature Notifications/Alerts

Hello. Our house will be empty for a portion of the winter and I'm wondering if there's a way I can set an alert if our finicky radiant heating system goes down. I'm thinking it would be a hand-set low temperature setting that would send a notification by email or text if that temperature were hit. OR, it could be that if the temperature goes more than 2 degrees below the Eco setting I get an alert.

Without something like this, our radiant water pipes in the concrete floor could freeze and that would be the end of that. (My alternative, of course, is to replace the Nest with a Honeywell system that I know will send an alert. Or for Google to get over itself and return the integration with ITTT.)

Thanks!

@MapHouse, thanks for reaching out. Were you able to check the link that MplsCustomer provided? You could also set a Safety Temperature on your Nest Thermostat. Safety Temperatures can protect your home during extremely cold or hot weather. They can help ensure that your pipes won’t freeze or your home won’t overheat even if your thermostat is set to Off. You can click on this link to learn more about this.

@MapHouse, If the heating system breaks, it would possibly result in an error message on the Nest Thermostat, and I'm afraid that we don't have an option to get a notification once this happens. The best solution that we have for this is to set a safety temperature so you could still get a notification once the temperature drops below it.

Thanks,

Yes, I did. The safety temperature is a sub-optimal answer. The maximum temp it will kick in is 45C. I want 10 degrees higher to know *early* if my radiant system is not heating adequately.

But if that’s all there is and if Google insists on not allowing ITTT integration, which would solve my problem easily, then I’ve exhausted the ability of this board to solve it and I am already looking at other, more user-friendly thermostats.

I think what she was trying to get at is if there is another alert besides the message coming up on the app which doesn’t really alert you about the problem unless you look at the app. Reading through the problem-solving it looks like there is the possibility of a text or email to notify you of the breach of the safety temperature. We have a cabin up north and we’re down in Florida and I was unaware that the safety temperature was breached a number of times while we were gone. Don’t know if there was a power outage or how the temperature got that low as I have it set at 60.
