Add thermostat without adding to Google Home

Hello,

Is it possible to add the Nest thermostat to the Nest app without adding it to Google Home? My kids think it's "fun" to control the thermostat with Google voice commands. It's costing me an arm and a leg.

Hi @brocks26,

Maybe another good option is to enable Google Assistant Voice Match.
This way, you can configure your Google Assistant to only listen to your voice.

If you set it up like this, the Google Assistant only responds to commands given by the voice that matches. 🙂

The Google Nest Thermostat is only compatible with the Google Home App. It doesn't work with the Nest app.

I've always used the Nest app for my Nest thermostat. My kids use voice commands.

I don't use Google Assistant, my kids do. That's why I only want the thermostat in the Nest app.

I understand but if you setup home assistant with your voice only as allowed it also solves your problem. 🙂

That way Google Assistant does not listen to your kids but only to you if needed.

Right, I get what you're saying but, again, I don't use Google Assistant, my kids do. I appreciate the suggestion though.

@brocks26, thanks for reaching out. Aside from what RXShorty is suggesting, we don't have an option to block voice commands to devices linked to your Google Assistant. Our team is always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.
