Joewalker1125,

When you opened the nest box, there was an installation paper that said now to start, it even suggested taking a picture of the wires on the old thermostat before you disconnect them. There were labels to stick on each wire because the color of the wire does necessarily match the terminal the wires were connected to. The online configuration tool is used to configure the Nest so you have a seamless installation.

If your HVAC installation company followed typical practices, we might be able to recover from this mistake. What make and model of HVAC equipment do you have? Do you have a Heat Pump? If so, what type of Auxiliary Heat does your system have? Does your HVAC system have a humidifier?

Basic HVAC control system from the Thermostat is as follows:

R, Rc and Rh are POWER IN to the thermostat

C is POWER COMMON IN to the thermostat

Y, Y1 is the Cooling Stage 1 Call control

Y2 is the Cooling Stage 3 Call control

W, W1 is the Heating Stage 1 Call control (conventional heating)

W2 is the Heating Stage 2 Call control

W3 is the Heating Stage 3 Call

G is the Blower Fan Control

O/B is the Heat Pump Reversing valve control

D is the Heat Pump defrost single

E is the Heat Pump Emergency Heat control

S1/S2 remote temperature sensor input

Are you ready to try and fix your mistake now?

Well, that depends. On your old thermostat, what thermal letter was the orange wire connect to and which terminal was the brown wire connected to?
