Hi! I just installed my thermostat and it's working but I don't quite understand the presets. I have been searching and searching and can't find a description anywhere. Why are there two numbers? I understand one is for heating and one is for cooling but I don't understand how they are related. Especially because the red number is lower than the blue one it seems? At least that's how the premade ones were.

Any help anyone can offer explaining it would be great! Thanks.

Jen

This article discusses temperature presets as well as other ways to control your Nest: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10185085?hl=en

The red and blue numbers (the target temperatures for heating and cooling) define the range of temperatures in which your house feels comfortable to you (or, when you're away, temperatures that will save money by running the systems less). The lower number is the boundary of where you'll feel too cold and want the heat to come on. The higher number is the boundary where you'll feel too hot and want the AC to come on. So, yes, the heating target needs to be lower than the AC target. It can be a little lower or a lot lower, depending on your tolerance. When you're not home for a long period, you'll want a larger range between them, to save energy.
