Thermostat not heating house consistently

My thermostat is set at 72 but it is 67 degrees in the house. What is wrong with the thermostat?

Please help me to help you. I need to know more about your HVAC system.

1. What is the primary Heat Type? (Gas, Heat Pump, Oil etc.)

2. Do you have dual fuel (i.e., Heat Pump and Gas furnace)

3. When was the last time you changed your air filter?

4. When the heat is turned on, does air coming out of the vents feel warm?

I have a brand new on demand natural gas furnace. I have hot water base boards. There is no air filter. Once a week for the past few weeks, I come home, and the house is 67 degrees. The thermostat is set on 72. I have never had this problem before.

I believe what you have is a gas fired water boiler, circulation pump, and baseboard radiating heaters. Would that be an accurate assessment?

When you want, test the thermostat. First, set a temperature that is 5° higher than the current temperature. Then, go to the gas boiler and see if it starts up. If it does, the thermostat is working. Please try this and report back.

Ok, now, being very careful not to get burned, check to make sure all the radiators are getting hot water delivered. Go to each and put your hand close to them and see that they are hot. With this step we are making sure the system has enough water and the pump is circulating.

I tried all of the suggestions. I noticed that the house doesn’t stay at 72 degrees when we haven’t been home for several hours. Otherwise, when we are home, it is pretty consistent.

If someone doesn't walk by the thermostat every so often, does it automatically switch to Eco? Does it think no one is home?

Hello Sue, the particular schedule does not change if somebody walks by or doesn’t walk by the front of the thermostat where farsight detects them. You must set a schedule if you want it to be run by a particular schedule such as ECO.

The nest confirmed my suspicions today regarding switiching to ECO on its own. My schedule is turned off. We left the house this morning at 7 a.m. and at 3 p.m. I checked my NEST app. It was set on ECO and it was 64 degrees in my house.

How do I get it to stop switiching to ECO when it thinks no one is home?

I found an article that told me how to shut off the automatic switching to Eco mode when no one is home. Hopefully, I will no longer have a problem with it.
