Would this current wiring configuration be compatible with a nest device? Which ones may or may not be compatible? Wires appear to be Rc, Y, G, W, W2 and Y1.

Looks like standard system Heat and AC but not sure what the brown and black wires are for.

Also you need one more wire a C wire for the nest. Is there a extra unused wire in the cable that you can use for C?

There is usually a yellow wire and i dont see one coming out of the wall. And is the brown black coming from same cable as the rest or is there another cable in the wall?

The Brown wire goes into "W2" and the Black wire is going into Y1. The current thermostat is programmable and has been running our heating and AC for over a decade (unsure if that helps). Unsure if there are more wires in the wall/behind the box. I will look tomorrow and reply if this answer doesn't help.

What is the marking under the bent over tabs for the black and brown wires?

Do you have 2 stage heat and 2 stage AC?

Under the brown wire is marked "w2". Under the black wire is marked "y1".

Unsure if we have two stage heat or ac.

Have to go to the furnace end and take pic of the wires there see what terminals they are using

Also what does the front of the old thermostat look like does it have switches you used like Aux Heat etc ?

On the Furnace I cant see the screw labels clearly.

The tan cable is the one comes from Tstat so write down the color and what screw terminal on the furnace it is attached to.

Dont worry about the other wires in the same screws just need to match up the tan cable wire colors and list the name of the screw.

Looks like a Gas furnace with AC but could be 2 stage heat.

If you look for the decal on the furnace there should be the Brand and model number you could google that see what it says, or there should be a wiring diagram on the decal showing the screws and thermostat wiring info.

Ok... here is what I could tell (I am colorblind so this is hard for me, but I am trying my best!) I've attached some other photo's with the wiring diagram inside the furnace and the model/serial number information (this is a Coleman Furnace).

Wiring Diagram as I saw it:
Y1 - Black

Y2 - Blue and Tan(?)
W1/W - Pink/White

W2 - Dark Green

R - Red

G - Green

C - White/Tan(?)

You have a 2 stage Heat and 2 stage cooling system.

The Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation is only one that can work.

If you have the standard Nest you could make it work, but only if you jumperd heat W1 and W2 at the furnace and also jumpered cooling Y1 and Y2

It would run at the max heat and cooling mode and not change stages anymore.

Ok. Thanks for the assistance. If I were to order a 3rd Gen, how hard are they to set up? Does this come with good instruction, or does this forum help out? Thanks for the help so far!
