If we think about this logically , the Thermostat just makes simple decisions.

I have a nest thermostat! I get how to schedule temperatures but I don’t understand how long it stays on for I only want it to reach that temp then turn off until it’s scheduled again or I turn it on!?

A temperature schedule, either heating or cooling, is used to specify the time of day you want the room temperature to be at. If you set a single day say Monday at 9 AM you want the temperature to be 78°F, the system will set 78° and hold it there until the next time there’s a change. The intention is that you can set schedules based on your typical lifestyle. You set higher and lower temperatures based on times each day you want the temperature to change. The best way to do that is to put entries on every day and what temperature you want in the morning versus the evening or you can change it four times a day. I hope this helps.

Helpful, I had the same question. So if we have the temperature set for 21 at 8am and then 17 at midday it will maintain the 21 until it starts to reduce for the midday change?I had to turn off the learning thermostat while we just get used to what temperature we want the house at at certain times of the day. Much prefer a pre-defined schedule

That’s what I’m thinking is that what we have to do set a lower temperature when we want it to go off/cool down! We still trying to work it out too! Lool

Hello LisaE,

The use of a custom Heating or custom Cooling schedule is good to adjust the desired temperature by day and time. This is very good for energy savings. So, in your case, you set a specific time of day you want the temperature to be attained. So, let say we work Monday thru Friday, when we wake we want 21°C. We set the schedule Monday:0800@21, then we copy that to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Then we set a temperature set point change at 1200 of 17°C. And as the other, we copy that to the other days.
OK so now we activate the schedule. Now what will happen in this situation is no matter what the overnight temperature has dropped to, which looks like 17°C, by 8 AM the system will heat the air to reach 21°C and it will remain at 21°C until noon at which time the system will lower the setpoint to 17°. And then slowly the temperature will drop unless of course it’s the middle of summer. The system will maintain the 17°C until 8 AM the next morning.

I hope this helps you to understand how the schedule works.
