I have just purchased a home which has a Nest thermostat installed. After a lot of "digging" I have managed to set up a schedule which seems to work "sorta".

BUT the Nest will show that the programmed temperature is set at 71 (in big numbers) but that the actual temperature is 69 in small numbers above the big ones, and then underneath the big numbers "IN 1 HR". So the schedule should be to keep the house at 71 but has allowed it to cool to 69, and the furnace is NOT running.

The schedule is set up to lower the temp overnight and raise it at 7am and that seems to be working, but the thermostat seems to allow the temp to "sag" below what is set at times. I work from home and it is irritating that it does this. If I move it up to 75, to "kick on" the heat, NOTHING! Just "IN 2+HRS".

The online "manual" is less than easy to use, when all I really want it to do is keep the home at the temperature that is in the schedule thank you.

Maybe the thermostat is "too smart", or maybe I'm "not smart enough", but I'm getting ready to go to Home Depot and get a "dummer" unit.

If anyone can point out how to get this to work I would be grateful.

Thanks and have a great New Year,

Scot

Like most tstats the nest has a 2° swing. The time to temp is a guess based on outside temp and previous heating cycles. That time to temp of 2 hours sounds like you have a heat pump. You can set the heat pump balance to up the comfort and it will heat faster by turning on the aux heat faster.

I too had this issue and someone on another thread suggested to turn off the safety temperature settings and that has worked for me so far. It now warms according to schedule all day and night (as well as any manual increase/decrease). I live in Georgia so that is not as big a deal for me as it would be for someone who lived in a much colder state/location.

I have also seen in other threads someone suggest that you simply remove the device from your account and then reset it completely, go through all of the settings to reconfigure it as if it were a new installation and finally added back to your account. That seemed to work for some others. If you have not tried either of those I would suggest giving those a try.

Apparently it seems to be some glitch with the software/firmware version 6.2–22 Good luck!

UPDATE 01/13/22 - Stopped working after a few days and went back to initial issue - unfortunately. Back to square one.

I have this same issue - would like a feature that’s this simple: I set it to a temperature, when the heat dips below that temperature the furnace turns on until it’s back at that temperature. The simplest of functions. For the life of me I can’t get it to just do this

Me too! It’s making me nuts, and cold! I have all of the eco features turned off. Why does it go below the lowest setting of 67?!?

Exactly!!! I think I'm done...we are in the middle of a snowstorm here and my heat is not working. I’m replacing both these nest thermostats ASAP. I have been fighting with this issue off and on for several months now. Ridiculous!!!

Returning from vacation, we found that our thermostat had been offline for 16 days. We reconnected, set a new schedule, etc. Nothing seems to work—the temperature falls, unscheduled, in the night to 60 degrees. It is set at 67. We are freezing! It says it is raising to the scheduled temp in 2+ hours, 4+ hours. We are frustrated and COLD!

Same for me up here in Canada. Before connecting anything to my phone i want my heating system to work manually. I can't even get access to a manual without an account. Tried to set up a new account, doesn't work, because I need to have an account to do that. The former owner of our house is not available anymore. Since now google is the new master, it only can get worse. And we freeze - all of us.

Hello chboy,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

Setting up the Nest Thermostats without a Wi-Fi network is still possible so you can control it manually. To do this, the set up will depends on what type of thermostat you have.

Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat:

If the thermostat hasn't been set up yet, you should see options such as Language, Equipment, the Nest App, Internet, etc. on the screen.

Proceed with the initial steps and skip the Nest app by selecting "not now."

Skip the Internet connection part and follow the prompts until you reach "finish setup."

For Nest Thermostat (2020):

Install the Google Home app on your phone and sign in to your account.

Proceed with the initial set-up so your system can be configured.

Once you reach the "Choose your Wi-Fi network" part, skip this by selecting cancel or just force close the Google Home app.

Restart the thermostat device itself.

Remove the display from the base and remove the batteries for 2 minutes.

Put them back in and on the base to refresh.

Please let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark
