Nest heats when set to cool. On heat it just runs the fan. I am in a condo with a cooling tower on the roof. Unit in my condo is all electric. My wires are Y. G, C, W and R.

I have triple checked the wires. I have reset the Nest. I did a factory reset on the Nest. I have powered down the unit in condo and restarted after 5 minutes. I have insured Home app was up-to-date and rebooted my Android phone.

Could it be a matter of switching the Y (cool) and W (heat) wires???

Please help.

Did you switch the wires? I’m having the same problem and already went through all the troubleshooting.

I had to call a HVAC company. Got a fellow willing to suggest some things. Essentially, the W wire had to go to O/B. That solved the "heat when set to cool" and vice versa . Programming the darn thing is another whole issue. They tend to walk you in circles with any help page that you read.

The contractor I spoke to said they do not recommend the Google nest. It is so user unfriendly that usually customers want them out within a couple months. They recommended a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat and I have booked them to install it in my condo.

I am returning the nest thermostat and would not recommend them either.

Incidentally, I don't remember reading anywhere, in plain english, that switching the W wire into the O/B terminal might/would/could fix this issue. According to my pro, the O/B terminal is the one which controls the valve which makes your heat pump 'reverse': heat to cool, cool to heat.

I hope this helps 'cause there isn't much that Google offers that will.

Best regards...

Hey Mel... I guess you didn't read my replies, above.

In a nutshell:

I am returning the nest thermostat and would not recommend them either.

Incidentally, I don't remember reading anywhere, in plain english, that switching the W wire into the O/B terminal might/would/could fix this issue. You will be much better off.
