Dual fuel system

I have a nest gen 3 set up with a dual fuel system heat pump and LP gas furnace and have had for a few years now. I’m not really impressed with the performance of the system in its current state with the nest thermostat. Wires y1 g o rc w1 w2. It has temp lock outs that control which system to use and I find it very inefficient. As I have to set a temp when it will shutdown the heat pump and turn on the furnace. I can’t lower the temperature at night because the heat pump takes too long to warm the house up. I stumbled across a discussion regarding heat pump balance and was wondering what I wires I’d have to swap to get this option to show. After reading about about heat pump balance it seems that this may make the system work the way I want to as it will split between gas and electric. Any help is appreciated.

No wires need to be switched you do it in the settings.

Read this article.

If you have a dual fuel system, a type of system with a heat pump outside and a separate heater installed inside your home, you won't be able to use Heat Pump Balance. If you have a dual fuel system, you can set a lockout temperature manually in the Nest thermostat's Equipment menu.
