After 2 years of normal operation, my Nest E Gen 1 gave me a message = error low power, E196. To fix temporarily I needed to remove the Y wire. This worked and now running. I need the Y wire when AC starts, what caused this after 2 years of normal function and what can be done? Battery power reads 3.88V

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the process noted in this link, and my thermostat works, but without the Y wire. I will have to do something when I need to run the AC. My question is why did this happen now after 2 years of use without a common wire?

Hi docdanhl,

Thanks for the response. You'll see this code if your air conditioner has tripped a safety cut-out switch that prevents your air conditioner from turning on in very cold weather, or your system might need maintenance.

Thanks,

Hi docdanhl,

You can reach out to your AC's manufacturer as this varies per unit. You could also reach out to a pro technician so they can check your entire system and wiring to make sure everything is correctly placed.

Best,
