Cant get past E294 error code. Any suggestions?

If you search on "E294" in this community, you will find multiple posts with work arounds for that error.

I had this same problem with my Nest and a 5-wire setup Y-C-W-G-R. I connected all 5 wires, told the Nest setup program I had those wires, and I got the E294 error indicating the "R" wire was not connected.

To fix my E294 problem:

I factory reset the Nest
I left all 5 wires connected
I told the Nest setup app I had Y-W-G-Rc connected
I finished setup successfully.
I went into the Google Home app, selected the Thermostat I installed, went to Settings -> Thermostat -> Wiring -> Update wiring -> added the "C" wire.
