Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay.

Nest Thermostats maintain its battery level with the help of the wires connected to it. If power isn't enough, the thermostat uses its own battery to support your system.

I want to know more about it:

Do you have a C wire?
Could you please share the photo of your old wiring and your current wiring on the Nest Thermostat?
Please check the power readout of your Nest Thermostat. For Nest Thermostat 2020, check it under settings, equipment and power info. For Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E, go to settings, technical info then power.
