Google Home app says Nest is offline

I just saw that my google home app says Nest thermostat is offline for about 2 weeks but my thermostat has been working and says it’s connected with strong signal. So I’m unable to perform any remote control from the app. I found a suggestion from Community Specialist Jeff to toggle the IPv6 setting as a fix for the app but I couldn’t find a Wi-Fi icon on the App Home Screen to find the IPv6 toggle switch. Please help!

Have you tried uninstalling your Google Home App, and installing it again since you're seeing it offline for a long time. If doing this didnt fix it, then you will have to factory reset your thermostat to do the setup again.

Hi Jenelyn, thanks for following up. I replaced batteries in the Nest and it works now! I’m curious why though, I thought the Nest gets it’s power from the wired set up

Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that your Nest Thermostat is now working.

The wires connected to your thermostat are responsible to support the power. Batteries are the main source for the thermostat to stay on. In most cases, changing batteries can resolve the issue about functionality.

For the meantime, observe your thermostat. If anything comes up, feel free to reply.

Hey MTee88,

Good question! Unlike the other Nest Thermostats that can charge their built-in batteries, the Nest Thermostat 2020's batteries will last depending on its usage. Power outages, Wi-Fi connection issues, and insufficient power from the system are some of the possible reasons why it drains fast.
