After 7 years it is time to replace my nest, what are the steps? Or do I just remove the old from the wall and put on the new? Thanks.

Assuming the new model you have is still compatible:

Reset your old thermostat and remove it from the wall.

Install and setup your new thermostat:

I was getting the e103 error message. I reset it a couple of times. I had a hvac person come out and say nothing is wrong with our system to replace the nest. But since being down for almost two days it has been up and running just fine so I am at a loss. Should I just replace anyway?

If you've already had a HVAC visit, there's a good discussion on this issue here:
Answered: E103, yet again.

Hello there,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for sharing some helpful links, davidking.

It looks like an overcurrent appears on your Y1 wire. Is your thermostat still installed? If so, could you please check its power readouts in the Technical Info? If you're still in need of any assistance, feel free to let us know.

Regards,
