I have seen older posts but they are now locked, so reposting.

I recently installed a second Nest thermostat (first one stopped working). Just like the first one, this one reads several degrees higher than the actual temperature (e.g., it is 65 degrees in the house and the Nest says 67). I have tested this by installing my old thermostat and by putting a separate/unrelated temperature sensor next to the Nest. It is 100% the Nest reading the wrong temperature. No issues with anything else.

Can you please advise?

Hey scottl12,

A few questions:

What type of Nest thermostat do you have?

When was the thermostat installed?

Where did you install your thermostat? (in a room and on a wall or stand)

Do you have other active Nest thermostats? If yes: Do they show the same issue?

When did the issue start?

How big is the difference between the readout of the Nest thermostat and your thermometer or other thermostats?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If yes: Would you mind listing them?

Give these steps a try:

Go to Settings > Technical Info > Network.

Check for the Signal strength value.

Restart the thermostat

Turn on Sunblock

Check if the thermostat is near a heat source

Keep us posted.

Best
Mel

Hi,

I have the basic Nest thermostat.

It was installed about 1-2 weeks ago in my kitchen/living room area on a wall. No other active thermostats. The issue was immediate. I’ve done all the troubleshooting - restarting, etc. etc.

I am also having another issue that started a day or two after installation. I get an e-mail saying that I am not getting proper power.

We noticed that your Nest Thermostat isn’t receiving sufficient power, which will cause the thermostat’s batteries to drain rapidly. If this continues, your thermostat will work but may experience the following issues:

Reduced battery life, that may require replacements every few weeks

Disconnection from Wi-Fi

Disabled motion sensor

Unexpected activation of heating and cooling

I click out of the error message, check that there is proper power coming, batteries appear to be full, etc. etc. And then there was no issue for 1-2 weeks. Then, it happened again. I check the thermostat again/reset/etc. And appears to be fine. I have a power connector/power set up to be sent from my heating/cooling company and the device seems to be receiving the power.

Please advise
