E294 error, Google nest

My old unit had 4 wires, G, W, Y, RC along with a jumper from the RC to a terminal listed only as 4. I removed the jumper wire, but plugging the RC wire into the R terminal on the nest gives me an E294 error. I've tried reconfiguring, restarting, and resetting multiple times. I'm thinking I might need the nest power connector.

Before doing that, is there anything I'm missing out could do differently?

You can check to make sure the fuse on the control board in the furnace/air handler didn't blow.

The Nest compatibility checker provides a note when using the Google Nest Thermostat (mirrored) that says

Nest thermostats are designed to work without a common ("C") wire in most homes. During installation, a small number of customers may find that the Nest Thermostat does not receive sufficient power. The Nest Power Connector or a C wire may be necessary. See g.co/nest/cwire for details.

If the fuse isn't bad, then I would suggest installing the Google Nest Power Connector.

I appreciate all the steps you've taken, @Smcd. I'm checking in to see if you were able to inspect the fuse on your equipment from the control board, which might cause a power loss. Also, make sure that all wires from your thermostat are properly connected and the tabs are pushed down.
