Away mode question

We’re away for a week over Christmas so I set the thermostat to Away mode via the Nest app. When i looked today my heating has been on for between 3 and 4 hours each day since Monday. I thought away mode would mean that the heating wouldn’t be on or on less often as we weren’t in the house. Maybe an hour in the morning and evening? When I checked this afternoon it was also set to 20c. I hoped the thermostat would save us money especially when we’re away.

We had the thermostat fitted in June but have only started using it for heating since October so are still trying to understand how it works.

Can someone explain what Away mode does in plain English?

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. To isolate the issue, I suggest checking the Nest Energy History to see the reason why your Nest Thermostat is changing the target temperature.

The history shows me it has been on but I can’t see from this why it’s changing the temperature if no-one is home. Can you also tell me how I can see history of more than 1 week ago. Why is it on at just gone midnight and 4am when I have a schedule set

Thanks for the response. You can try tapping on the circle with the target temperature inside and it should show how that target temperature was set.

I've seen your replies but I still don't understand why in away mode the heating comes on when it's not scheduled too.

I don't understand how I work out how the target temp was set from tapping it. All I see the temp. And the scheduled timings are ignored. Next time I'm away I'm setting it to off so I know it won't be on at all unnecessarily
