I have a simple 2020 Nest Thermostat (not the Learning thermostat or E).
It stops working once in a few weeks. I notice it when my room seems colder than usual and then see that the thermostat is showing orange indicating it is heating, but there is a big difference in the current temperature and the set temperature. If I use the thermostat menu options to restart the thermostat, it starts working properly and the room heats up again. This started happening some months back and has grown more regular over time. The last instance was this morning after about 4 weeks.

Should I just change my thermostat? If a restart fixes it, I presume the issue cannot be with my furnace or control wires.

my call to support resulted in the technician asking me to change the batteries. Not useful at all. Any help is appreciated.

Jake,

thank you for checking in. Hopefully I met your 24 hour cut off!!

thr problem has happened in 3 of the 4 thermostats I have and everytime I go to the thermostat, reset the thermostat from the device console and it performs ok for the next few weeks. I can change this to a lithium battery or something else if required, but this happens even with new alkaline batteries and so I am skeptical of the assumption that it is a battery problem. Happy to be proven wrong though!!

Hello Jake,

Thank you for your response. I read the article posted in your message above. The symptoms are different in my case. The problem is still happening. I am wondering if I need to just buy a new set of thermostats and replace the troublesome ones. I have 6 zones. 4 of these zones have Google Nest connected. I am having problems in 3 of the 4 Google thermostats. The traditional oens are all working splendidly. There are no other issues with my furnace. All I have to do is to go to the thermostat and restart it from the Settings menu to get the heat working again.
If there is an issue with the C wire, how would I troubleshoot it?
