@Patrick_Caezza

thanks so much for your help last night. The c wire in the c thermostat terminal works great. As I’m sure people often ask your advice, I came across a Reddit string where someone had called Taco and got their input. Taco says to put the c wire from the adapter into valve control terminal 1 (green). This controls the fan. But in a heat only, gas / radiator set up there is power sent to that terminal which can be used, and it’s never going to be a problem. I tried that today too. It worked great for a while then both units went powerless on me so I switched back. But I feel like my system is janky and that might be an option for someone down the road. Just letting you know in case you want to suggest that to someone.

Thanks so much for your help. All good. - Steve

I have gone over my wiring dozens of times and it matches the installation schematic for “heat only” in the c wire adapter instructions. Yet I still get the N260 message constantly. I’m guessing it’s just that the unit isn’t getting enough power because it won’t turn on as I approach (non essential function). Is it possible my system just doesn’t put out enough power and I’m totally sunk?

Post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring and one of how you wired the thermostat and power connector.

What type of Heat Only system do you have?

Does it have a C terminal?

At the thermostat only a white and red wire that obviously went to the W and Rh terminals. There is only an R terminal on the nest so it’s in there.

at the board at the outgoing terminals they are numbered 1-4. Green, yellow, brown, blue in order. From the c wire adapter for the incoming terminals I have the red wire and the “r” wire and white wire and “w” wire clipped into the splicer. Then I have the white colored wires from the adapter going to R and W on the board at the incoming terminals and the c wire going into terminal 4 with the blue wire already there.

It doesn't sound like you have the power connector wired correctly.

Can you post a picture of the terminals at the baseboard system connection point?

What is the manufacturer and model number of the baseboard system?

Those are perfect.

The bottom row of terminals is for the valve relays, and you don't want to use them.

The top row of terminals is for the thermostats, and each zone has a connection for W, R, and C.

From the looks of it, it appears that you have several wires in each thermostat cable. If that is true, then you can use one of the spare wires (blue) and connect it to the C terminal on the controller and the thermostat.

You shouldn't need the power connector.
