The problem I see is the white jumper between the E/W1 and W2 terminals. The only time that a jumper is required is when there is no wire going to the E/W1 terminal, but you have a brown wire connected there.

You need to look at the terminal block on the control board in the air handler and see where that brown wire is connected. The jumper shouldn't be needed for that thermostat if it is connected to E, W1, or E/W1 terminal.

If the brown wire isn't connected to anything, you can leave it disconnected when installing the Nest thermostat.

Hello there - I have no idea what a control board is. I would’ve even know where to look. I called an HVAC company they wanted almost $500 to hook up my nest $176 just to show up.

That is them gouging you. The price for a basic install is normally $99.

I would try a few other HVAC companies or search for a Nest Pro close to you.

Hey there,

I understand. E/W1 wire might be your heating wire or emergency heat and the wire on the W2 could be your Auxiliary heat. The purpose of the jumper wire is to energize both of the wires regardless if you're using your emergency heat or Auxiliary heat.

Also, if you have the Nest Learning Thermostat handy, try installing it without the jumper wire and make sure to insert all the wires on its appropriate terminals.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
