Based on the Wiring, it looks like you have a Heat Pump. The odd thing is the yellow wire in Y terminal has a White jumper wire to W1. There is a green wire on G and a blue wire on O; the heat pump is the O wire.

from the status of the way, this thermostat was wired, a call for heat would initiate a call to the compressor outdoors to turn on; This is the jumper between W one and Y. There is a wire connected to the O terminal, which is controlling the heat pump reversing valve. In this case, if indeed, you have an O model heat pump, then you would need to energize the O wire in order to get heat. Where are my confusion comes is that this thermostat knows about heat pumps. Hence it has an O and a B terminal. There should not be a need for the jumper between Y and W1.

Can you provide the the make and model number of your old Thermostat? I would like to check the manual for configuration settings of that thermostat.

Sure. I have two. One is a Braeburn 1020-150-03 and the other is a Bradburn Model 5000

On the back of your 1020-150-03 thermostat, what are the switch setting? This model is not a programable thermostat and it knows how to work with heat pump. On the back of the thermostat are some switches.

CONV/HP? Should be HP

HE/HG? Should be HE (unless you also have a gas furnace)

The model 5000 thermostat is a programable thermostat. It too has switches on the back for configuration. What are they set to?

The directions I got from Google/Nest help were the following

Please insert the Y wire of the old thermostat to the Y terminal of the Nest Thermostat.
Please insert the W wire of the old thermostat to the W terminal of the Nest Thermostat.
Please insert the G wire of the old thermostat to the G terminal of the Nest Thermostat.
Please insert the RC wire of the old thermostat to the R terminal of the Nest Thermostat.
Please insert the O wire of the old thermostat to the O/B terminal of the Nest Thermostat.

If you decide to replace this with a Nest Thermostat or a Nest Learning Thermostat, you will ignore the white wire jumper between Y and W1. You nest will use the following wires:

Red Wire on Nest R or Rc. This is the Power input.
Yellow Wire on Nest Y or Y1, this is compressor control

Green Wire on Nest G. This is indoor blower fan control

Blue Wire on Nest O/B. This is reversing valve control.

The nest thermostat prefers to have a Power Common wire. Since the white wire is not attached, it could be re-purposed as the common.

That is correct since it’s not currently connected to anything, there’s no reason to assume that it must be connected at this time. So just ignore that white jumper just like you’re ignoring the blue jumper between Rh and R.

So the Google Home/Nest app is telling me that it's not compatible. They asked for the current wiring, said it won't work and I can't progress. See attached.

Re run the compatibility test using only R, Y, G, O. As I stated the white jumper between Y and W1 is to be ignored. That means you do not have a wire on W1. Second, you only input R and ignore the blue jumper wire between Rh and R.

W/W1
Y/Y1

R
O/B
