Nest screen black - won’t charge

Hi, I wondered if anyone is able to help me. Earlier on our heating went off & I checked the Nest & it said it wasn’t connected. It then said something about needing to charge, and then switched off. It’s not come back on, the screen is black. I’ve tried removing it and plugging it into usb to manually charge but again nothing happens & there’s no red light on the nest to show it’s charging. Any ideas?

When it's charging on USB cable it should flash the LED on the top of the screen. Try leaving it charging for a few hours see if it starts blinking green if it charges up.

How old is the Nest and do you have a C wire connected to it?

Many thanks for your response. There’s no flashing light when it’s charging on usb. There’s no lights at all. I left it charging for a good few hours but still nothing.

Not sure what a C wire is, but there’s only 2 wires going into it when I take the front off, T1 (brown cable) & T2 (black cable). It’s about 2.5 years old.

The first questions would be, are you USA or Europe? Heat Link or None? Which model do you have?

C wire does not mean anything to Europe, which is a problem on this forum, as the person asking the question does not say where their from! I keep asking for USA and Europe sections, but still nothing after about 2 years!!

Whichever country your from, the display still can be re-started by squeezing the front to the back, and holding while the USB is plugged in, give that a go. Should you see any lights, then release if it flashes. Another issues could be a clicking noise, listen very carefully close to the display when attached to the base. See if you can hear any buzzing/clicking noise.

Being in the UK explains exactly why you know nothing about a 'C' wire!

I would edge my bets your battery is giving up, listen for the clicking.

Yet again with the forum, understanding the question from another country.

Google...............Why can't this forum have a USA and Europe section to solve this simple issue?

Hi @Clx! I'm really sorry to hear that. Could you please let me know what is the color of your Heat Link's LED? Also please try to connect the display with a micro-USB cable for 90 minutes and tell me if there are any changes, you could also try multiple cables.

I think they stated a USB has been plugged in on their replies!

I didn’t realise you could also connect the heat link via USB, I was only trying to charge the display initially. Once connected to USB the heat link showed a yellow LED which I believe means it’s not connected.

The thermostat display has been connected to multiple USB cables for a long time and still shows no sign of life. And the same when plugged into the heat link with the USB plugged into the back, no sign of life. I also trying pushing the display against the heat link to restart whilst plugged into USB at the back as suggested above but that didn’t do anything either.

Got it. Just to clarify, the Heat Link when it's not connected to the USB cable, it has no lights on it?
