I just bought a new house (bungalow) and it already has 10 thermostats, I was wondering if just buying one learning thermostat near the entrance would be enough while the rest would be normal nest thermostats, or should I have another one downstairs as well.

Thanks!

NobilisIV,

Your bungalow likely has one primary thermostat and 9 zone control thermostats. Basically whenever you have multiple thermostat, you need multiple nest thermostats.

NobilisIV,

The nest learning thermostat has the ability to learn about your system, and how well and efficient it can heat or cool your home and it has many advanced features for more complex systems. However, no residential design thermostat is designed to control multiple areas. You have to think about it in terms like this.

A thermostat measures the ambient temperature in the location where the thermostat is mounted. Based on that and evaluate what the system temperature setpoint is and whether the system mode is se to heating or cooling. The thermostat will activate the heating or the cooling system until the setpoint temperature is satisfied. For this reason, you would need multiple thermostats if you have independent zones that are heating or cooling different areas of your bungalow.

Hey NobilisIV,

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm sorry for the delay. Most homes are not the same temperature in every room. The temperature can vary because of the number of windows, size of the room, amount of sunlight, and other factors. Installing Nest Temperature Sensors aside with one Nest Thermostat will help measure the room's temperature to send it to your thermostat.

I appreciate your help, @CoolingWizard and Archie.

Regards,
