Installed Nest Thermo w/o app. App won't let me connect now because I need a pro?

Hey folks, with the help of my electrician buddy and his HVAC friend on speed dial, I installed the Nest Pro 3rd Gen learning thermostat that our energy company provided us. Everything was straight forward except the blue wire, which was marked differently on the HVAC side than on the original thermostat. The HVAC buddy made a suggestion and it worked first try. Everything appears to be working as intended, though none of the actual "tests" worked. When manually setting the temp, both heating and cooling appear to be doing their thing as intended.

When I went to use the Home app to add it to our home, the QR scanner would nab literally nothing or half the QR and then would throw an error.

I then tried to use the Nest App, and it takes me through the entire set up and asks me what kind of wiring I have etc. When I enter it, it tells me I need a pro, and doesn't let me move on to connect it to the app. Again, the thermostat appears to be working as intended. Is there a way to circumvent this or am I totally screwed and have to have a "Pro" come out and punch in a code so I can connect this thing to my Home app? We have the HVAC guy coming out to service the system early May, so as long as it keeps working as intended, I'm sure we can just have him do it. I'm just curious if there is a way to work around this. Thanks!

Post the picture of the old thermostat with wires connected. And, post the picture of your Nest Backplate with wires connected. The nest installation instructions do advise you to use the stickers to wrap around the wires that are attached to the connecting terminals of your old thermostat. Those are typically R,Y,W,G,C.

I did not wrap the wires with the provided stickers, but I added a photo of the panel on the side of the HVAC.

As I said, the system is working perfectly fine as it's wired currently. The HVAC technician I had my friend contact told me to put the Blue wire in the C slot on the Nest Thermostat.

Thanks for the update. I'm sorry for the delay. To isolate it further, could you please take a photo of the page where your Nest app is asking for wires and a page showing the specific message about Nest pro? Also, go to your Nest learning Thermostat Settings, then look for Equipment and check your Wiring diagram, if they're all detected by the thermostat.

Hello Danieljrmurray,

When I install nest learning thermostat, I initially install the Nest app and do the installation using the Nest app, once everything is working and stable. Then I add it to the Google Home app if the customer wants it.
The wiring looks correct and I am glad your HVAC system it is working for you. Is your HVAC system a Heat Pump or a conventional system with a furnace and an Air Conditioner?

We have both a furnace and an air conditioner.

The issue is that when I try and set up on the app (which I did after the install was complete) the app won't let me go any further saying I need a "nest pro" to do the install, despite it being installed properly and working correctly. It appears I need a Nest Pro code or some sort to bypass this so the app knows it was installed by a "professional". I don't see the point in calling out and paying for a technician if I did the install correctly and the system is working fine.
