I ordered a Google Nest thermostat via UGI and am looking for clarification on wiring. When I first moved in I had a Honeywell dial thermostat which controlled the heating and cooling. It was changed to a digital programmable one which is when I believe a jumper wire was run from the RH to the RC to accomodate that thermostat. The Google Nest new one doesn't have RH and RC, just R. Is it safe to just remove the jumper and wire into the R on the new thermostat? Other wires are fine, W, Y G

Thermostats, which have an RH and an Rc are capable of supporting two separate systems, each with its own control transformer. One being a heating system, and the other being a cooling system. For this reason, when you have a standalone combine system, you only need to use one wire for the incoming power. Those old thermostat use a jumper between Rh and Rc to ensure that both the heating and cooling parts of the thermostat were receiving power.

For the nest thermostat it’s all combined in the R for the model you have. You wires will be R, W, Y, G.
