Is there a way to tell which thermostat an Action Needed message is for?

We have 3 Nest Thermostats. I received an Action Needed email stating, "We’ve identified an issue with the installation of your new thermostat" and it suggest installing a Nest power connector however it doesn't indicate which thermostat it's for. I looked at everything in the app for each thermostat and don't see any notifications there. Is there a way to tell which thermostat the message is for? Thanks.

If look at the “Technical” information for each thermostat, one of them might show a much lower battery charge.

How do you have the thermostats wired?

Are they all wired the same?

How long have the thermostats been installed?

Hi @Patrick_Caezza. They are wired. Two have transformers and one has a Google Power Connector. They've been installed for about 6 months.

Does the one with the power connector also have a transformer? If it does, did you remove the jumper on the power connector? Not pulling that jumper might cause that message.

Do the two Nest thermostats that don't have the power connector have a C wire?

Hi @Patrick_Caezza. The one with the power connector does not have a transformer. None of them have a C wire. Also, FYI, we're using the thermostats with a radiant floor heating system with a Triangle Tube boiler. There's only heat, no A/C.

All conventional HVAC systems have a transformer for the power needed to control the system. The R,Rc,Rh on a thermostat is power sent from the transformer to the Thermostat. The thermostat sends this power back to the HVAC equipment on the Y wire to start cooling, the W wire to start Heating, and the G wire to start the blower fan.

Boilers are a bit different. Some of the simpler boiler systems do use 24Volt AC control systems. Some do but the transformer is contained inside the main power block such as the Honeywell boiler control. If you can get a picture of the boiler, often there is a manufacturer label showing the wiring schematic. With that I look up the unit and see what type control system it is using for you.

@BethC, how's it going? Have you managed to check which thermostat draws power? As mentioned above, you can verify them using the power readings in the Technical Info or Equipment settings. Please let us know if you have more questions.

Hi Mark. All 3 are drawing power. We looked at the settings and all have similar battery power too. 😕

Hi. The last email was May 9. It's not a zoned system. Yes, the thermostats were installed at the same time.

It's me again. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share with us your actual thermostat's power readings in their Equipment settings > Power Info? Please indicate them by their room names or names to isolate which one has a power-related issue.

Hi Mark. I don't see "Equipment settings" or "Power Info" in the app. Is that only on the device? I'm not at the house now (it's a 5 hour drive one-way so it's not easy to go check it.)

@BethC, the Equipment settings and Power Info can be seen on the thermostat itself. Just go to your Nest Thermostat's Settings, slide down to Equipment, then tap Power Info.

Thanks. The thermostats are in a house that's a second home for us and a five hour drive one way so, unfortunately, that's not something I can easily check. I'll have to wait until the next timr we're there.
