Nest Thermostat Compatibility?

Hello! I know this has red, white, and black wires. I'm not sure what is wound in that black one. Would this be compatible with a nest thermostat?

Edit: I pulled the wires out more and found a green and blue one. Does this change things?

That thermostat you have is more than likely connected to a ductless minisplit AC. It does not use a conventional HVAC 24VAC control system. It use a proprietary digital communicating protocol. This system is not Nest Compatible unless it has an option to rewired to a conventional HVAC 24VAC control.

It depends on the equipment on the other end. Does the equipment on the other end have conventional HVAC control system.

Sorry I'm unfamiliar with this. Would this be located on the furnace / vent area? I do know the AC is on a separate circuit as required by the power company. But I don't know of any controls anywhere else. Where should I look?

Thanks for reaching out to us. I see that your control panel has the non-standard labels of V+ and Vg which means that your system is proprietary.

Proprietary systems aren’t compatible with Google Nest Thermostats. However, some proprietary systems can be rewired by a pro installer to be compatible.

Some systems have both the proprietary RS 485 interface and sometimes they have a dual interface in some systems that will be the conventional HVAC control system. You unfortunately have to go to the furnace and look there and see if you see the wire connectors for R, Y, G, W, C, O. If you do see a terminal like that it also supports conventional HVAC controls.

Hi yes this was helpful. The HVAC does have the required wires but would need to be run up to the control panel. I'm going to talk with a specialist about this to see if it's worth the cost.
