How do I set the Net Thermostat to always have the fan on?

My HVAC installer suggested my house temperature would more balanced if I set the fan to be always on.

There does not appear to be a way to do this from the Android app.

Apparently you have to do this from the thermostat itself, the instructions from Google online do no match what I see when I try to follow them.

I am visually handicapped and this thermostat is easy to read.

Note

The add-on temperature sensors are great that is how I determined that the house temperature was unbalanced. I thought I was sick because during the nights I was often shivering.

You can only set the fan to run independently of heating or cooling if your system has a dedicated fan (G) wire. There are a few ways to check if you have one:

1. In the Google Home app, select your thermostat. Click the gear icon in the top right (Settings). Under the Device features heading select "Thermostat", then "Wiring". If the wire is there it will say "Fan" next to G, otherwise it will say "Empty".

2. On the thermostat, go to Settings -> Equipment. That will show what wiring are connected to your thermostat.

3. Pull the thermostat off of the base and look for a wire connected to the G terminal.

If there is no G wire, ask your HVAC installer if one can be added.

Google's documentation is cursory as usual.

I know I have a G wire. Fan settings showed up when I went into settings.

I was unclear on how (and if I needed) to set the time settings. If you do not change the setting both the start and end time are 12 am. I was not sure if this meant the fan would be on all the time or not come on at all.

I have the Nest Learning Thermostat. Most likely the most recent version since it is a year and half old and bought directly from Google.

The settings are that the fan is always on from 2 am until 1 am. If the on and off time are the same is the fan always on or never on?

The icon of a fan appears on the main screen below the temperature.

I would send photos but there does not appear to be a way to do that.

I already read the article you sent a link to and it does not answer my question.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Manually test your fan by going to Settings, then looking for Equipment. Click Continue, then select Test. Under the test option, select for Fan, and verify if it activates.

I followed your instructions. The fan is on.

I still would like an answer to my question.

If I set the fan to always on and the time shows by default as 12 am to 12 am. Is it always on or never on?

If never on, how do I set it to run all the time.

Hello folks,

@LBalsamtoo, thanks for the follow-up. To run your fan all the time, follow the steps below:

Tap the thermostat you'd like to control from the home screen.
Tap Settings.
Select Fan Schedule.
For Every day, tap the slider to turn your fan schedule on or off.
Set how long you'd like to run your fan per hour. You can choose 15, 30 or 45 minutes of run time, or select 60 minutes to run your fan for the whole hour.
Choose what time you want your fan to start running, and when you'd like your fan to stop running this schedule. If you have a multi-speed fan, you can select a fan speed for your fan schedule.

Yes I would like my initial question answered.

If on the thermostat I select always from the Fan Schedule menu the time is set from 12 am to 12 am by default. Does this mean the fan is always on or never on? If never on, how do I make sure it is always on?

Additional new question. If I turn both heating and AC off by select Off as the mode, does the fan remain on if it is set to be always on or on at this time?

Hello there,

Thanks for reaching back out to us. The fan will run only according to the fan schedule chosen on the Nest Learning Thermostat and doesn't have the option to run all day. Also, if you set the heating and cooling to off, you are also turning off the thermostat itself; therefore, the fan will not run as well.
