Smart TRV hub required??

Hi,

I'd like to try and save some money this winter by turning heating off when/where not needed while still ensuring my baby daughter's bedrooms remain at a constant temperature through the night.

I've been looking at Smart TRVs that say they work with Google but they all say that their branded hub is still needed. Are there any smart TRVs that I can buy which will just work with the Nest thermostat without needing a separate hub?

My nest thermostat is in the coldest room in the house so if that triggers the boiler to come on to heat that room but the girls bedrooms are at the temperature we want then I want the smart TRVs so that the radiators don't hear up their rooms even more.

Can anyone help?

If the only problem is your girls's bedrooms are getting too hot why not just install a much cheaper TRV.

I have the same question. Again, it's wherever my daughter is. We want the house warm downstairs when we're down and the heat up her room before she goes to sleep. We want a smart trv so we can control the heating in each room without going around controlling the valves.

Ideally want to add smart trv to our existing nest but need to understand more about hardware needed and installation as our plumber isn't knowledgeable in this technology.

All that article says is that nest thermostats are compatible with Smart TRVs. Is it able to control them though? Can it replace the "gateway hub" that some TRVs say they need?

Jake picking this up a little out of date, but no where can i find an answer asked many times on the forums, can the Nest thermostat work with Smart TRV's. So ive not bought the TRV's so happy to be advised if there is a model that will work with the Nest thermostat. The question is, if the smart trv is calling for heat as that room is cold, but the nest thermostat isnt calling for heat as the room the thermostat is in is meeting its temperature requirement, can the nest still turn on the heat so that the room with the trv gets the hot water needed. The other rooms then wouldnt get heat as those smart TRVs wouldnt call for heat?

I've been doing a lot of research on this topic and Jake is definitely a BOT. I have the same exact scenario and question and haven't gotten a good answer. I saw this but this was from 2022 and he is saying it is not compatible. It doesn't seem like a hard feature to integrate into the NEST. I wonder if there is any progress or updates on this topic?

Thanks for getting back to us and for posting on this thread. We're always looking for ways to improve, and we'd appreciate it if you could send us some feedback. Controlling heat via the smart TRV is not available when connected to the Nest Thermostats.
