Nest Learning thermostat not connecting to heat Link

Hi guys,

I have the latest Heat Link + Learning Thermostat installed. Both have been working perfectly with no issues and connected wirelessly. Last week my kid took the thermostat off the wall and broke it, so I just ordered the new Learning Thermostat, and plugged the new display back to the socket on the wall. The thing started but it does not connect to Heat Link, it does not auto detect it and manual configuration does not help while Heat Link is in pairing mode.

I've performed all of the recommended steps from other threads:

- DIsconnect any wifi/bluetooth devices in the area

- Push and hold heatlink button for 20s to reset, done twice one after another

- Attempt reconnect/reset pairing

- As above but moving the thermostat next to the heatlink

- As above but with a 30s button push

- Replace heatlink function using 6-digit code

I found this thread which seems discussing the same issue but the fix there is not clear - my thermostat "base" mounted on the wall has only two wires on it (I assume that's power), and it's "base" has no other wiring options, while the one I purchases now seem to have a "base" with multiple other wire connection options there which I am just not using as I assume that's needed for wired connection. So I did not re-install the new "base" , I just used the previous one on my wall and plugged the thermostat into that directly. Anyway - looks like the power wire connects to the same pins on the base as the thermostat is powered and working well. So basically I do not get how come changing the wiring of the nest thermostat base can help here as folks are discussing in the thread below? It's just the power wire and it powers the device well, so not sure what else can be an issue. Might be a faulty bluetooth module of the new thermostat maybe?

P.S. WiFi connection and rest of the thermostat settings work fine.

Note that something strange happened few nights ago with the system (I left it unconnected as per the initial message). In the morning I found my Heat Link indicating a stable green led, and the Thermostat was controlling it remotely. When I went to the Thermostat settings it showed the Heat link was NOT connected, but it was actually controlling it wirelessly. After a while the connection seem to have dropped and Heat Link now indicates static yellow light. I tried to re-connect the devices again manually following the steps in the original message (from re-connection option to full reset and adding of new heat link device) but still no luck. At this stage I suspect something is wrong with my new Nest Thermostat as I never had any issue with my previous one (note - devices location, cabling etc was not changes since I bought the new Thermostat device).

Thank you so much for the picture. It seems like you've purchased the US version of the thermostat which it's slightly different than the EU. Can you tell me what's the distance between the thermostat and the Heat Link?

Hi Vladut, so the distance is 2 meters and its separated be the plasterboard wall so there would not be any interference. As i said this setup worked very stable for several years, issues started with the new thermostat screen installed.

i noticed this morning the heat link was having stable yellow light, tried to turn on the heating with a thermostat control, the heat link clicked and heating started to work and the led on the heat link switched to stable green. After a while the led went back to yellow.

Thanks for the details. As you already have the T1 and T2 from the Heat Link into the base it offers a wired connection between the 2. That orange light it comes sometime when Heat Link is not connected wirelessly to the display but in your case it's not needed anymore.

Hi Vladut, thanks for this comment. I did not do the device installation originally but I was under the impression my Nest Thermostat wires are only power source and not control wires. Are you saying those wires are actually used also to control the Heat Link?

Note that when I try to check wireless connection it never sets up (see image, constant connecting sign). And also sharing the status of connectivity on the device. I was under the impression the Thermostat only controls Heat link if the wired connection is set up, could confirm this is not correct?

Hi there! The wires from T1 and T2 are used to power the thermostat and also to create the connection between the Heat Link and the thermostat. However the thermostat can wirelessly connect to the Heat Link, but in your situation is already connected via the wires so the wireless connection is not needed. The thermostat can control the Heat Link as long as it is connected to the Heat Link (wired or wireless).
