This is my first time posting on this forum so here goes, I’ve had my nest Thermostat for 2+ years with absolutely no issues then yesterday i noticed it warm in the house so I go to thermostat and no power and offline with code e298, so as im looking it up it kicks on and the thermostat is reading normal so I figured some fluke thing, well later on it did it again, I unplugged it and plug it back in and in a few minutes it kicked back on like normal, I guess my point is it’s going back and forth and I don’t know why, would anyone know what is going on, thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Hi Kvnhurley,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. The E298 code is meant for no power to R which is your power wire. Please check your Nest Thermostat wiring by going to Settings Equipment Wiring info. Check for wires that appear as grey. This means that the wire is not sending voltage to your thermostat. Some wires, like a C or R wire, need to send voltage to keep your thermostat powered on.

Also, you can follow this guide:

Turn off the power to the HVAC system.

Remove the thermostat display.

Take a photo of the current wire setup.

Remove the wires from the connectors and straighten the wires.

Strip the wires to expose ⅓ inch to ½ inch of copper.

Reseat the wires into the connectors and use the photo of the wire setup as a guide.

Reinstall the thermostat display and make sure it clicks into place.

Turn the power back on.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hey thanks for getting back with me, I figured it out pretty much right away after I posted, I had a clogged drain pipe and the float switch was turning the power off, I got a airline and blew it out and it’s been perfect since
