Hello there, cfortan,

Thanks for getting back to us. I understand that you wanted to save your existing Nest Thermostat data. But you will be using the completely updated Nest Thermostat we have currently. Saving its history is not applicable or can be transferred to a different Google Nest device, but you can program it as a new one.

You might want to learn more about the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation, so here's an article about its current features. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Best regards,
Mark

I have a Gen 1 Nest thermostat that I have had installed for a long while now. My power company had a huge sale, and I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade to a Gen3 nest (mostly so I could use a remote temp sensor). Is there a way to "update" my nest in the app so that I dont lose any history? I would like to migrate this data over and not lose any of that history!

thanks

Hello cfortan,

Thanks for reaching out and for keeping up with the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation. I'd be happy to tell you more about it.

Linking user data is not possible, even after changing to a better version of the Nest Thermostat. You may still be able to review some of your existing data on this website by logging in with your account credentials. With this, setting up your new thermostat will allow you to configure it as a new device, create new Temperature Schedules, and program what you have with your old thermostat version.

Please take a look at this link and let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark

Yes. Just deciding about returning the thermostat or not . Not being able to migrate is a poor hardware strategy
