This issue is specific to my primary Gmail account.
- I have home structures in the Home app where I am the only user, but if I try to delete them I get a "there was an error communicating with Google" message and told to try again, in an endless loop of hopelessness
- - I was unable recently to add a Nest Doorbell (Battery) and Nest Thermostat (received the same error message on the final step of setup)
- My wife created a new Home on her phone and added the devices successfully then added me to the home. I can see the two Nest devices, but they are showing offline (they show online for her). All other Google Devices (Nest Minis (3) and Nest Hub Display) show up and are controllable.
- I had a photo album tied to my main Google Account showing as ambient on the Nest Hub display, but I toggled it to something else and although it lets me set it back it doesn't work anymore (shows default landscape images)
- Here's the kicker: I have a second Google account, and if I log into that on the Home App (I invited it to the home from my main), I can see and control all the devices.
- I am on the same phone (Pixel 6 pro)
- I am using the same Home App
- When I toggle between users my main account shows the two new nest devices offline but the secondary account shows them available and lets me control them
I've tried all the troubleshooting multiple times to try to resolve this while trying to set up the devices and the issue persists. Because of the way it is behaving I'm pretty sure the error is specific to my primary Gmail account and not any configuration on the device or Home structure.
I had read in another case where installing the Nest app and logging in may help, that would be wonderful but when I try to log into the Nest app using Google, it seems to work, I get an email saying I gave Nest access to my Google account, then it asks me to verify my email and says an email was sent. The address it shows is a hash followed by address.com and not a real email address (I never receive a verification email).
Ultimately, I can't use my primary Gmail account for Google Home or Nest anymore and I have no idea why. I'm using the secondary for now as a workaround.
Any help is appreciated, keep in mind recommendations should be for the google account settings since everything else works with a different Google account with the same devices/phone.
