Google Home app not fully functional on android devices (that used to work)

Redmound

Most recent versions of the Google Home App tries to install full google app for some functions.

Cause: I have numerous touch pad displays mounted around the home in order to control google home devices. For energy saving reasons these are low powered "tablets" that run Android Go.

Problem: Most recent versions of the Google Home App is not fully functional (it used to work). Specifically in dealing with the many google and nest branded smart speakers in the home.

The google home app does not recognize the google go app. It insists on trying to install the regular google app, which does not install on google go devices.

As far as google assistant and google/nest branded smart speakers are concerned there is no functional difference between the Google Go App and the non optimized Google app.

The Google Home App is not recognizing the Android environment it is installed on and is a Bug.

Solution: I have tried everything I can think of to fix this.

Hi Redmound,

I know how it feels if something's not working as it should be. Let me help you through it but first, let us isolate your concern. What are the functions affecting your Nest speakers? May I know what Nest speakers you have? Are you able to give any voice commands? I know that you've tried everything, does that involve a factory reset on our devices and a sequential reboot having your router as a focal point? Also, what smart devices are you trying to control?

I'll be waiting for your response.

Best,

Dan

This has to do with THE GOOGLE HOME APP not functioning on google go tablets / phones. The google home app tries to install the google app....which cannot be installed on google go...it does not accept the google go app which replaces it.

You cannot add any devices or automations, because the process is aborted when the google app install fails.

I have tried to remove the google home app / reinstall, remove the google go app and tried every way to install the google app.

I have Nest Thermostats, nest speakers and google wifi....but that is irrelevant SINCE THE GOOGLE HOME APP will not function on Google go devices.

Hi Redmound,

Apologies for the misunderstanding but, would it be possible for you to send a short video clip about your concern. Below are the steps on how to upload a photo or video:

  1. Start a new post/reply to this thread.
  2. Click Insert Image.
  3. Choose an image source location.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions
  5. Also, you can tap the "Drag and Drop" option. Maximum attachment is 5 MB.

Also, it would help a lot if you could use a different phone and set up your Nest speakers there. It's quite interesting that the Google Go app is able to affect the integration between your Nest speakers and your Google Home app. It shouldn't have.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Dan
