I recently changed my wifi network and its name. How do I reconnect my Google nest, smoke detectors with the internet?

Generally, you should first remove the Google Nest device(s) from the Google Nest app or Google Home app while you are still on the old Wi-Fi network, then do a factory reset of the device(s), and then reinstall it/them while on the new Wi-Fi network.

Judging from other posts in this forum, skipping the first step can be problematic, and some devices can only be factory reset by removing them from the Google Nest app or Google Home app.

Here are Google Nest's instructions for performing a factory reset:

If you need help from Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp), you can use the link and instructions in this post:

Hey folks,

@larrymay1, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. How's it going? Were you able to perform the steps shared above? In case you haven't, you may follow the steps below:

To reset your Nest Protect:

  1. Press and hold your Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  2. Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
  3. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings.
    • To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown.
  4. After a few seconds your Protect will reset to its factory default settings. You can then go through setup with the app and add it to an account again.

You need to make sure that your new Wi-Fi network has the 2.4GHz setup because the Nest Protect only connects to that network. Also, Nest Protect can only be controlled and setup with the Nest App.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson
