Google nest not registrating with Home App

JKinloch

Hi,

I bought the Google Nest Hub Max and have the nest smart themrostat. When I go to the google home app -> works with google -> Nest, I get asked to login to my Nest account however when I try to login with my google account, it does not work.

The error says:
"If you've migrated your account or want to create a new one, sign in with Google". There is no option to sign in with google and no option to register a new account with Nest. Anyone able to help?

Thanks in advance

The "Works with Google" option is only used to install non-Google Nest devices that have been certified to "work with Google".

The Nest Hub Max gets installed in the Google Home app (by clicking on "+ Add" and following the prompts), but then the camera gets installed in the Google Nest app (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9449420).

What thermostat do you have, the Nest Thermostat (installed in the Google Home app), or the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E (installed in the Google Nest app but then are visible in the Google Home app, provided you are logging into both apps with the same Google Account).

@MplsCustomer  Thank you for the reply.

I have the Google Nest 3rd Gen Pro Wireless Heating & Hot Water Smart Thermostat. I believe i can add it via the Google Home App directly. I didn't see the add devices section. Thank you for the help on this!

@JKinloch

The way in which Google Nest names its products is confusing. I think that means you have a Nest Learning Thermostat.

Google Nest lists just 3 basic types of thermostats:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9274936

If you installed your thermostat in the Google Nest app, then you cannot "add" it to the Google Home app. It should automatically appear in the Google Home app, provided you are logging into both apps with the same Google Account.

If you've been using the Google Nest app since before August. 19,2019, then you need to "migrate" your Nest Account to a Google Account. And you cannot migrate it to a Google Account that is already being used for other Google Nest devices. See this help page for specifics:

In the Google Home app, if you click on Settings, a "+ Add" button appears in the lower right corner of the screen. Use that to start the process of installing your Nest Hub Max, using these instructions: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7029485

Hey everyone,

@JKinloch, i'd like to jump in here and check if you've seen MplsCustomer's response. Let us know if you need more help by replying to this thread.

@gertrude62, thanks for posting here in the Community, To view your Nest thermostat in the Google Home app, you need to migrate your account to Google, but if you haven’t migrated your account to Google, you can still access your Nest thermostat using the Nest app or the web app https://goo.gle/2qjvVSU

I appreciate the help, @MplsCustomer.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Best,
Edmond

I’m having a similar issue. I can’t log in at all. And I don’t want to migrate to Google. I’ll keep you posted if I get any answer on my help question.
