Nest Thread Router

Mwheeler2013

I am attempting to connect a Nanoleaf bulb and LED strip to my Nest Thread router. The issue is I don't know which Nest Device is creating the network. How can I see what device in my Home account is Thread enabled?

Hello Mwheeler2013,

Thanks for reaching out.

Matter is designed to work locally over your Wi-Fi and Thread networks. When you add a Matter-enabled device to your Google Home, it joins the same network as your Google device that works as a hub for Matter. Check this article for more information.

Best,
Alex

That's not really what I'm asking. I understand how matter works and Thread routers. How do I see what devices are connected to a thread router?

Hey there,

I'm sorry for the confusion. Could you confirm what Nest device are you using as your Thread router?

Thanks,
Alex

I have a Nest Hub Max and multiple nest hubs. I can't find an easy way to determine if the are 1st or 2nd gen. Either way I am primarily concerned about the nest hub max and what devices are connected to it via Thread.

Hello Mwheeler2013,

To verify what devices are connected to your Thread network, visit this article.

Alex

That doesn't really answer my question. From the Nest side how can I see if something is connected Via Thread?

Hi Mwheeler2013,

Apologies for the delayed response.

To verify if your Google device is connected to your Thread network, do the following:

  1. Setup your Google device with the Google Home app.
  2. Set up your Nanoleaf essentials device with the Nanoleaf Smarter Series app on the same Android device.
  3. In the Nanoleaf app, go to Dashboard > select your Nanoleaf device > Settings.
  4. Ensure the firmware version of your Nanoleaf device is at 1.6.8 or later. If not, update the firmware.
  5. Confirm the connection type is Thread. In the Nanoleaf app, go to More > Thread network.
    • If the Google Thread border router is the first border router in your home, it might have a name that starts with "NEST-PAN-."
  6. If the connection is still Bluetooth, restart the Nanoleaf Essentials device and wait a few minutes.
  7. To test if the Thread network works, on the Nanoleaf app dashboard, select your Nanoleaf device and tap a scene to activate it. If you turn off Bluetooth, you should still be able to control the device.

Thread credentials are saved on the Android device so they can be used when Matter devices are available.

For an illustration of how Thread and Matter devices connect to each other in your home, go to the Thread Group's smart home page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Dan
