No location access on home app on iPhone

Hi

have just added a replacement Google Nest hub- gen 2 and a google nest wireless doorbell to our set up. The google home app has since been acting weirdly. It lost connection with the genio and grid connect globes and switches so I set them up again. Now it says “no location access” on both my home and holiday house. When I click on the error I’m taken to the settings in the iPhone . Background app refresh is turned on but greyed out. I’ve got addresses in the account and have restarted the phone as I thought that was the problem. Have rebooted the new Neat hub. I’m still getting the error on the home app “no location access”.
how can I fix this for both my locations ?
I have Starlink would this be confusing things? I’ve not noticed issues before and have had it for a year.

thanks.

Hi

I’ve gone through all my settings and I think we’ve fixed it !!😃

settings>general>background settings was off for all apps. So I’ve turned it on and ensured it’s on for the google home app and now it all appears to be ok.
I think I’d originally turned this off to save data or something so I’ll selected which apps can do this rather than a general off switch for all apps.
thanks for all the help

Hi Megatronn,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. You can check the steps  below to enable the location access for the Google Home app on your iPhone.

  1. In Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy.
  3. Location Services.
  4. Check that it says on.
  5. Look for Google Home app
  6. Then toggle it to Off then back to On again to refresh.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni

thanks for your reply.
I’ve tried what you suggested.

The iPhone only has the option to change location to never for an app. I had tried this before so this time I’ve turned off all location services. I force restarted the phone and turned the location services on again. I’m still getting ‘no location access’

I’ve logged in to google home on an old Samsung tablet and a 9gen iPad and there is no problem with the location access so it seems isolated to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Any other suggestions for fixing this?

thanks

Hi Megatronn,

Chiming in — could you try downloading the Google Home app on a different iOS device for us to isolate if this is only happening to iPhone 12 Pro Max mobile devices?

Hi Megatronn,

It's me again. Just wanted to see if you need more help?

Hi

sorry for the delay in reply

as I said before : I’ve logged in to google home on an old Samsung tablet and a 9gen iPad and there is no problem with the location access so it seems isolated to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both used the app.
is there an issue with this iPhone 12 ? The problem seems to be recent. It was not doing this previously.

Hi Megatronn,

Thanks for the details. Could you try these steps below? Make sure to download Google Assistant on your iPhone.

Add, change, or delete a location

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Assistant app Assistant (iOS).
  2. At the top right, tap your profile image or initial.
  3. Tap You and then Your places.
  4. Add, change, or delete an address.

Best,

Nikki

Hi

I’ve just had a go at that on the iPhone 12
It doesn’t seem to have helped I deleted my home and added it back.
the app is asking for background app refresh to be turned on. It is turned on and it’s kinda ‘greyed’ out so you can’t change the toggle switch for on/off

thanks

Hey there,

We're sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. If possible, can you clear the cache of your Google Home app on your phone settings? Once done, reinstall the Google Home app. Also, try checking if there's a pending updates on your phone.

Thanks,

Alex
