Hey everyone,

Last year we committed to bringing a desktop experience to our users, and we wanted to share a quick update on that commitment.

This week, we’ll be rolling out a Google Home update on home.google.com that lets you view your Nest camera and doorbell feeds on the web.* You can easily check in on live views in full screen, zoom in to see more details, view camera status, and more all from your web browser. Google Home for web will be available as a preview as we continue to work on improving it and adding more popular camera features.

*Note: If you don’t have access right away, continue to check back and let us know if you still don’t have access next week.

How does Google Home for web work?

  1. Go to home.google.com on your desktop computer.
  2. Sign in with the same Google account you use in the Google Home app.
  3. Immediately view live streams from your cameras.
  4. Toggle between a single camera view and multi-camera view.

What can I live stream?

  • View live streams of all your Nest cameras and doorbells.
  • View the live stream of one camera at a time.
  • View full-screen to see more details of what’s happening.

What can I control?

  • Turn cameras on or off.
  • Wake up battery cameras when they are inactive (Note: They may time out to save battery).
  • View status of cameras: on/off, inactive, and offline.

*What cameras and doorbells are compatible?

  • Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Cam (wired)
  • Nest Cam with floodlight (wired)
  • Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Doorbell (wired), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)
  • Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor
  • Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor

We’re eager to hear what you think of Google Home for web as we build it out, so please use the Send Feedback link in the menu at home.google.com to share your thoughts with us. For more info on getting set up, check out our support center.

We hope you enjoy these new updates!

@Leticia

It is now "next week" and we still do not have access in Minnesota, USA.

Surprisingly sort of working for me in the UK.

Nest hello doorbell wired 1st gen. The live feed shows.

Nest Cam wired. The feed won't show, just a  greyed box with a retry button that tries to reconnect but no feed shows. (I can see the live feed in the app).

Will only show a live feed with no option to seek.

I have checked off and on, as of today the link still just takes me to a product site.  Any suggestions?

From Minnesota, USA, we can now see the preview version of home.google.com, live streaming all of our cameras (both older and newer ones), with sound the can be enabled. It currently shows live stream only; no history.

We have one of the newer, 2nd gen indoor cameras that works only in the Google Home app. The image is poor and flickers on home.google.com when viewed on our iMac, but NOT on our iPad, and NOT in the Google Home app. Our 2nd gen battery camera and all older Google Nest cameras and doorbells look good.

This is one of the features we've been looking for since we bought one of the new Google Nest cameras in Sept. 2021 (adding it to our older cameras and doorbells).  We'll be awaiting additional features like viewing history.

Just checked again at home.google.com and now I am seeing the Public Preview

Tuesday 6:30am here.

Some progress, but it's backwards. The preview page comes up on the corporate network, but the video streams use STUN which does not and will never work through our firewall. Really Google? The irony is that we don't use NAT - our IP range is routed.

The non-corporate NBN network we also have would theoretically work, however I'm still getting the advertising page there.

So, still no access,

So my corporate computer wont work straight up, but my private PC does bring up preview (now 7:44am)
I then sent myself the link from the private computer and opened that on the corporate computer and preview now works on the corporate PC as well

I am in Brisbane :0)

Yay. I've got it now as well although I've only been able to test on my mobile devices. I'll hopefully see it at home and at work too.

Hey everyone,

Happy to mention that Google Home for web is now fully rolled out for users with compatible Nest camera and doorbell devices! Head on over to home.google.com to try it out for yourself — and if you have any questions feel free to post over on the community.

Thank you!

@Aus_Was_HereThe preview now shows on the NBN service, but does not work through a firewall in restrictive mode - which is how most corporate network should be set up.

Hopefully someone will work out a way of displaying the streams from Google's servers directly.

@lgftsa I am just happy its working at least, will be nice when its fully sorted and all features plus hopefully new ones work

I can confirm it's working on my mobile devices and at work on the corporate network. If imagine it should work when I get home tonight too.  Good times. I look forward to more features in the future but this is great now.

@Leticia The page is visible, but the video feed is not displaying.  The controls are present and seem to operate, but where the video should display, it is blank.

UPDATE: FIXED
I had a plugin for Chrome running disabling autoplay of video.  Disabling this plugin allowed the video to display.

November 1, 2022 and it is working for me here in Souther California.

I'm seeing a lot that I really like.  So I have to give some credit to google for moving this forward after 1+ year of waiting.  The look and design of the page exceeds my expectations (so far).

My biggest 'happy' surprise is that I don't need to log in every time I go to home.google.com like I did the nest version.

The other thing that is big for me is it works with both the old gen 1 cameras and the new gen 2 cams.

Now my 2 big issues that I know are coming that will make me a very happy camper is:

#1  Let me view recorded events and anywhere on the 24/7 timeline.

#2 Let me define clips of any length and be able to save them and send a link to someone for viewing.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this work just like the Nest app.

With Firefox on a Mac running Mac OS Ventura, when we first visit the home.google.com page, it takes awhile before the spinning blue circles give way to live footage, and sometimes one or all of the live feeds blacks out and displays "Retry" for a second or two; then the live footage resumes.  This happens only on the first visit during a browser session.

UPDATE: works after clearing cookies for google again (see: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop

=============================

Here in the Netherlands I get this page (with the correct google account), even after trying other browsers and clearing my history & cookies.

I checked the more info pages about how to upgrade the Nest account to a Google account and I have multiple houses that I am connected to (primary house including the nest cameras).

Hope to hear what I can do to fix this problem (or when we will get access to the google home web app in the Netherlands).

We can get the live stream on Google Home web but there is no access to history, that I can find.

Hi @Marslo - Are you subscribed to Nest Aware?

The "Preview" live stream on the Google Home web page (https://home.google.com) does not currently provide any access to history even if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription.

@MrVacca I have Nest Aware Plus and I don't see event history on home.google.com either.  Are you saying you can see the camera history when you go there?

And on this topic can you report to the web designers that the blue CAMERA ON switch is stilling right on top of the NEST watermark on each camera?  Hopefully they can correct this soon as it is annoying.

Also, why is it necessary to display the word "cameras" under the camera name in each window.

Can't say I understand this, I have been using a web based browser to view my cams for years?

@jparrie, The new generation of Nest cameras released in September of 2021 have not been viewable in a web browser until now. The functionality is limited and we are all hoping that they carry over the functions from the one you are using over to this new version.

You look at your cameras on home.nest.com. The new site (which should work with your older cameras) is at home.google.com. Give it a try and see if it works for you. But right now all you can do is view the LIVE feeds

I'm able to login to home.google.com and see my cameras. I need to download some video from about a week ago but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. I can download a 1 min clip on my phone but I need around 5 minutes. How do I get my video history? When I log into my home.nest.com account there are no cameras so it seems some level of migration has taken place. I know my video history is there, I can see it on the app on my phone. I just need to save more footage than 1 minute.

@nzenzen

For the newer Google Nest cameras that work ONLY in the Google Home app, you can only download the events that have been detected and recorded. For the older Google Nest cameras (the ones that still work in the Google Nest app and on home.nest.com) you can manually edit clips in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207572?hl=en

The only reason you should see no cameras on the https://home.nest.com website is if all of your cameras are the newer cameras that work ONLY in the Google Home app.

I see my doorbell cam. I'm very pleased. Great update! Now if only nest cams where more affordable like blink. I was hoping to purchase this Black Friday but really no great deals on your cameras.

Best Buy, Walmart, Kohl's, Dell, and the Google Store seem to have sale prices for Google Nest cameras right now.

That's a really nice and much needed feature for Nest customers.

Still it would be great if you could make room also for compatible cameras, just as i can see them on TV via Chromecast and Assistant

When will we be able to view history on the Google Home web interface?

I have ask that a few times in the last few weeks and as best I can tell the folks at Google are not answering any 'when' questions.  But yes, I REALLY hope they add this feature QUICKLY.

Any timeline on when video History will come google home web?  I like to save clips from Nest, and it was much easier on the desk top then the phone.

You would think that viewing the video history on the web using a desktop, would be A TOP PRIORITY for your users!!!!!

Come on Google!!

so home.nest.com got renamed and pitched as a new feature!?

finjam

Joining the chorus.......  it is unbelievable in 2023 that the top consumer product for camera surveillance doesn't yet allow viewing video history on a web browser (and up until 10/2022 even viewing a live feed from their newest products at all) when most of their competitors do, instead prioritizing the arguably inferior mobile device platform.  As loyal customers we shouldn't have to be begging for this functionality for years.

I support a "power user" who has multiple homes and dozens of cameras. The 5 Home and 10 Camera limits are insanely bad for anyone that owns anything larger than a standard family home.

Additionally, the whole Nest to Google transition has been a nightmare and a failure of good execution.  Being an early adopter of Dropcams and trying to keep up with the changing environment has been almost impossible.

Please, incorporate video history into web portal asap.

1. Is there a way to see this website using Google Chromecast? I would like to see all cameras on a monitor at once like it does using a computer.

2. I noticed on Chromecast it doesn't recognize the newer Cameras? Am I just not doing something correctly?

BrigitteBailey

I don't see anything in the Google Home app or on home.google.com that lets us manually trigger the recording of an event from one of our cameras. This would be a VERY beneficial and important feature to offer to your subscribers. Is that a feature that is coming in the future? Thanks

It is taking Google a really long time to bring this and other badly needed features to the Home.Google.Com website.  It might  help if we all click on the 3 little dots in the upper right corner and click on FEEDBACK and send them a message that way of anything you would like to see.  I believe those go directly to the people that are working on the product.  This is just a user-only forum and the Google folks don't visit here for feedback (sadly).

@Daps1974 great question.  Your best bet for this is to go to the webpage and click on the 3-dots in the upper right corner and select FEEDBACK and enter your question/request there.   That is the place the web folks look for feedback. As I understand it they do not read this user forum much at all.

I just went there and made the same request.  If enough people do it then it might happen sooner rather than later.

Hello,  Which website are you using?

If you are using https://home.google.com/ then there is no way to do it.  However I get around it by using a 3rd party screen capture program.  There are many.

If you are using home.nest.com (which is only for the older Generation 1 cameras) then there is an amazing system built in to do that.   You use the CLIPS icon in the lower right corner to get started. How to use it is fairly straight forward.

Hope this helps

How does Google buy Nest and then completely screw up the simplicity and ease of use of the Drop/Nest Cam.

 - home.google.com (PC) doesn't have the history function.

 - Home on the app, doesn't open cameras right away (like Nest did).

Just got the free camera to replace the dropcam and what a waste.  Thankfully figured out the gaps in the UI before ordering more.  Time to check out Arlo I guess.

@popanonymous  Yes we users have been waiting a VERY long time for being able to see history (aka timeline) in the home.google.com web page.  And waiting a very long time for features to migrate from the Nest App to the Google app.

If you are going to consider other cameras consider adding the EUFY line of cams to your research list.  There are a lot of youtube videos on them you can watch.  One thing you have to be willing to give up is no other company other than Google offer 24/7 recording at least at a reasonable monthly cost.
