As the holidays approach, getting a good night's rest can often be a little tough. With family parties, shopping all day, presents to wrap, and staying up extra late with friends we forget how much our bodies need to reset. Your Nest Hub and Google Assistant are here to help!
We’re excited to announce new features coming to Sleep Sensing to help you get more Z’s through the holidays and even after.
More insight into your night
When we launched Sleep Sensing, we saw lots of interest in wanting to learn more about sleep stages to better understand sleep quality. With the latest updates you can now compare when you change between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep Sensing offers a unique view by pairing the sleep stages with sound and light disturbances, so you can see how different things may impact your sleep.
We also improved the ability to distinguish between your coughs and snores from others who may be in the room. If the sound of a cough or snore doesn’t match your breathing pattern or correspond with motion from you, then it won’t be included in your timelines. Other loud sounds captured while you are sleeping will now be shown on a new timeline titled “Other sounds.”
With these additions to Sleep Sensing, we hope you can better pinpoint what might be affecting your sleep. Most importantly, we want to provide you with the tools to ensure you have the best sleep each night. These Sleep Sensing features will be available to users globally over the next few weeks.
Google Assistant can help too
A better night's sleep often starts with a good routine during the day. To help you establish a better routine, set up sleep-healthy habits or just get some “me time”.
Coming in December, the Google Assistant on Nest displays will give you access to Calm, a leading app for Sleep, Meditation, & Relaxation™ with a library of Sleep Stories, meditations, music and more. To try meditation content from Calm, you can either say, "Hey Google, show me meditations from Calm" or "Hey Google, start a meditation." If you have Calm Premium, you already have access to the full library. If you don’t, you can access several free tracks or sign up for an account that gives you access to Calm Premium.
Looking into the future
We’ve extended our Sleep Sensing preview so all Nest Hub (2nd gen) owners can try Sleep Sensing for free through 2022. In 2023, we plan to integrate Sleep Sensing into Fitbit Premium (currently $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year, subject to change and may vary by country) to bring you a more cohesive sleep and wellness experience. We’re still working on how to bring together Google’s innovation and the Fitbit Premium experience for this subscription. You can stay on top of future plans at g.co/sleepsensing/preview.
How has Sleep Sensing helped improve your sleep? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below.
