Hey everyone,

Keeping an eye on the activity around your home just got even easier– so easy that you don’t have to take your eyes off your TV. Starting this week, you will be able to watch the video feed from all of your Nest Cams and Nest Doorbells using Chromecast with Google TV!

If you’re ready to make home security part of your normal channel rotation, check out all the details below:

Which cameras can you stream on Chromecast with Google TV?

Starting soon, all Nest Cams and Nest Doorbells will be supported, including our latest devices that were released in 2021:  the Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired), Nest Cam with floodlight and Nest Doorbell (battery).

How does it work?

  • Chromecast Voice Remote: Simply use your voice remote to say which device you want to stream the live feed from. For example, just say “show me the front door camera” to see your doorbell feed.
  • Other Google Assistant-enabled devices: Use your Nest speaker or display and say, “Hey Google, show me the front door camera on my TV”

We hope this feature makes viewing your camera feed a breeze! Let us know your favorite way to view your camera feed in the comments below.

Starting this week sometime.

Google usually roll out new features over a short period so they can check for any issues occuring.

@Mariusz89

This is a community blog post about the new feature rolling out. Please start a forum question and you will receive better help there.

I think that trying the command's suggested will be the easiest way of checking.

While this is a very welcome feature It's really sad it took this long to do. This should have been a day one feature since the CCWGTV came out a year before the new cameras. Instead it took a year after the new cameras release.

That being said, I'm happy its finally arrived.

I have a so many Nest Cams, the indoor, outdoor, Hello, Floodlight version, only a few works.

Assistant will recognize the name I've assigned them, but the following doesn't work/support remote streaming

  • Floodlight version
  • Interior Nest - Wired

A step in the right direction. Really hope to see a number of updates for the nest cameras this quarter, especially the promised web application.

Will it work (now or in the future) with assistant enabled tvs like my Samsung QN65QN90, or does it have to be through a physical Chromecast device

ColoradoSprings

Will it allow continuous streaming or will it time-out at some point? Thanks.

It timed out on me.

When you say works with google tv with chromecast, does that imply works with android tv with chromecast as well? Literaly was going to buy an arlo today, had my heart set on hello battery but no chromecast made me reconsider. Now this announcement. Can I buy the neeto google bell with familiar faces, or am i stuck with arlo?

Another option is to side load the Nest app. Only downside for some dumb reason, is Google hasn't made their new cameras compatible with it. For instance, all my cameras minus my floodlight cam work with nest app. The nest app also gives you the option to view multiple cameras at once. What would be even better is if there were a Google Home app for Google TV as well as wear is.

Doesn't work on my 2020 Sony Android/Google TV, yet. I have a wired indoor cam and a battery doorbell. I am based in the UK.

That's great and sure to be of use to some. What might be even more useful is to have the web version ready as it's sure a point of frustration for many. Is there any ETA on that?

Thanks!

Does this mean that when something triggers the camera, such as a unrecognized person or when someone rights the Doorbell, a preview can be displayed on the TV?

Would be nice that when an event is detected that a preview pops up on the TV as a picture in picture sort of thing.

Arlo has this feature.

Now if we could just get simple  schedule notification added to the home app for the cameras now that it's been a year...  I only want notification at night on my driveway cam... not all dang day.

When will we be able to see all of our cameras and doorbells in a browser on our computer?  We've been waiting for 10 months to be able to see our Google Nest Camera (Battery) on our computer.

Astonishing that you ever even removed this feature. Wasted a lot of money on cameras that couldn't cast. I still have to run both the Nest App and the below average UX Google Home app too. This has to be one of the poorest product roadmaps I've ever seen from a company of your size. No Kudos for fixing something that should never have been broken.

Would be nice if you could stream multiple cameras at the same time. At the moment it looks like only one is supported at a time.

Fantastic however I would love the picture in picture feature when someone pressed the doorbell.

When are you going to put your smart home control of our devices? When will I be able to trigger actions based on camera motion, trigger actions based on facial recognition, create an automated routine when my presence is at home during a certain time to turn cameras on our off? Your products are not smart products yet and Amazon is leaving Google in the first when it comes to the smart home!

This works awesome! Is it possible to have a notification on the Chromecast with Google TV when the doorbell cam rings? Thanks!

My TVs accepts the voice command and then just sit at a spinning loading screen. The camera I tried to stream then goes offline for 15ish minutes or until I reboot it.Do this..Do this..Then this happensThen this happens

Tried today on an Android TV (Hisense U7G) and while it recognizes the cameras I get a "camera feed is not available". I can see this via my Google home device but not on the TV. Only camera that works is my Nest doorbell and not the Nest Camera (indoor, wired). Wondering if this will be fixed in the coming weeks or if this is just early rollout problems. I'm based in the US

Same here in the UK... Now it connects but then shows that camera feed is not available - for the doorbell battery camera and indoor wired cam

nest is officially dead.

all we want is working products.  doorbells, cams, etc, that work, and via one app.

YOU KNOW LIKE NEST DID BEFORE GOOGLE BOUGHT IT.

What do we get?  Stream via Google Chromecast to Google TV to see a camera feed.  Oh right, half of them don't work in cold.  Or with the newer app.  Or via any other product unless Google branded.

  • Well, I'm done waiting for a working app.
  • Gave up hoping you support devices I bought a few years ago.
  • Done waiting for a new doorbell that isn't ancient and battery powered that breaks in cold weather and can't stream.
  • I'm over not being able to use all my devices together unless it is Google branded.

Now I'm moving to planned obsolescence.  Going another route for cameras and doorbells and when my thermostat, the only thing left that Google still does well, dies or they decide to not support it I'll replace it with Ecobee.

I feel better now.  Now I can stop posting here expecting someone to respond, read, or react.  I can stop checking to see when the new doorbell is coming.  Stop waiting for Google Home to work.  I suggest others do the research and come to their own conclusions, but be cautious if you are starting this journey.

3 weeks since this was announced and this is still not working for me..."camera feed is not available".

I believe every one of us wanted to see the video feeds in our browser.
Also, how do we share ONLY the video feeds with someone? without using the Nest App?

It's been over 12 months, just when are we going to see any update at all?

Maybe all of the original Nest Engineers got laid off already? and the current Google Engineers could not figure out what to do?

Where is the web portal promised over a year ago?

What about other nest devices like Protect?

@Leticia -

This feature doesn't work - Confirmed that I have the proper hardware.

Google assistant just says - "Sorry, it looks like <camera name> doesn't support streaming to remote screens."

This is a Nest Cam with Floodlight streaming to a Chromecast with Google TV.

What are the supported software versions?

Again, why do we even try?  Google doesn't listen or give a s***.  Just horrendous innovation.

Hi @Leticia

You know what would be great ?  That if somebody rings your doorbell, while you're watching something on your chromecast with google tv, (or shield tv...) that you get a little "picture in picture" on the top right or left corner, a small circle in "popup" that shows you the alert and live video feed, while your content that you're watching (e.g. netflix) keeps on playing.

A short shime (or the "there's someone at your front door) is also put trough the speakers over the content that you're currently viewing.

Wouldn't that be super nice ?

and the story would be complete if you can adapt this behaviour in the settings, e.g. that you want this or not an when you want this, that you can say if you want the content to pause and get your doorbell full screen or that you want to continue your content and see it as a popup instead.

Hopefully this input helps you developing.

Greetings,

Nicolas

Why do the forum moderators allow such spam on these posts?! Yet a genuine issue or concern is posted in the forum and a day without activity or an update and it’s closed down, usually without resolution!

Does anybody have this working yet?????

I have 2 Nest Camera (battery) continously powered and connected to the same wifi as the Chromecast with google tv.  I also have a google hub display.   I can stream the cameras to the google hub display but I can not to the Chromecast that I went out and bought after seeing this article and several articles on blogs about the update that would allow this.

The tv just says   ----   "Sorry, it looks like <camera name> doesn't support streaming to remote screens."

Again does anybody have this working with the cameras that were released last year?????????

connecticutjeff

I found that if you have a google nest hub in the same room as your tv in the google home app it causes issues.  I moved my hub to a different room as the TV, and it worked.

Why just simply put an extra button like google home app to access the live camera.

It's not user friendly that you have to speak out everytime to access the doorbell/camera.

StephenGriffin

@Leticia  Could you please clarify if this works with Android TV with chromecast built-in? You statement is vague considering Google product naming. "Chromecast with Google TV" could be:

  1. A dongle used with any tv.
  2. A TV with a Google TV OS with chromecast built-in.
  3. A TV with an Android TV OS with chromecast built-in
  4. a verb chromecast your content to any chromecast enable device...

Thank you for consideration not only to drop news but take accountability to amend it if wasn't accurately posted.

Kind regards,

Stephen

Seems to work on GoogleTV devices, but not AndroidTV devices.

MateyMax88

That would be pretty silly... Because Google TV is just a skin for the Startscreen

@MateyMax88 you would think. But I've found a lot of differences between Android TV and Google TV devices. It's frustrating.

Coming up to 6 weeks now... it's still not working for me!
