2 chimes 1 doorbell Nest door Bell 2ed gen

Hello . 20221122_193652.jpg20221122_194738.jpg20221122_194700.jpg20221122_194652.jpg

I looked at the diagrams but they did not show my the 2 chime on 1 doorbell setup. Transformer is in attic. Doorbell wires blue and blue/stripe in attic. chime down stairs wire blue and blue/strip in attic. chime up stairs wire blue and blue/strip in attic. doorbell blue wire goes to transformer lefts side/trans. all the blue/strip wires are twisted together in attic. Upstairs and down stair blue wire are both connected to transformer right side/g.

questions?

Do I need to rewire?

Does chime puck go in attic or inside one of the chimes?

How should I wire?

Current door bell is ring 1st gen. Both chimes are working.

@CJoanah

You don't show a photo of your other chime. Sometimes when there are 2 chimes, one chime is wired to the doorbell and also feeds power to the other chime. In that case the first chime has incoming and outgoing wires, and the "chime" puck would be connected there.

This post shows a wiring diagram for the older 4-wire "chime connector" for the Nest Hello, where the "chime connector" is connected to the first chime:

Google Nest has not yet provided a diagram for one doorbell and two chimes for the "chime puck" for the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell; they just have this:

this is picture for 2ed chime. both chimes send blue and blue/strip to attic.

@CJoanah

I'm not an electrician, but judging from your photos, I would guess that your two chimes might be wired in parallel rather than in series. If this is the case, then one of your doorbell wires would go to your transformer and the other doorbell wire would be connected to 2 wires, one going to each chime. So one of the wires on the "chime puck" would need to be connected to the wire going to the transformer and the other attached to the point where the other doorbell wire is attached to the wires going to each chime. I can't tell where this might be in your photos.

This is just a guess; I found the diagram below showing how two chimes might be wired in parallel. Ignore the blue jumpers; they are used with the Eufy video doorbell. I can't tell whether this is how yours are wired.

Does this look correct to you?

@CJoanah

I'm out of my comfort zone on this and am NOT an electrician, but I don't think it's right. I think it may have to look like the attached revision. But I think Google Nest Support should provide input on this; it's their "chime puck", after all.

You should also be aware that a number of customers have posted here about problems with the "chime puck" with just one chime. Some have gotten theirs replaced by replacing the whole doorbell. Others have only gotten the chime to work by simply not using the "chime puck" at all; Google Nest has no clear answer to what's going on.

Thank you sir for your help. I will wait another hr to see if any one else responds. I will give your revision a try and post if it all works out.

So i was able to get it working. I tested all 3 options. when I test with my first diagram I sent you the chime only gave my a ding but no dong. so that was a fail. I tested without using the chime puck and every thing work like it should. And was able to here both ding and dong from the chime.

I then did a test with your revision and that also worked. so i left the chime puck on but real don't feel like I need that chime puck at all.

Thank you again

My system is still working. I was wondering if you have any input on the diagrams ? Where should the puck be connected?

Hey CJoanah,

Thanks for getting back to us and it's really good to hear that it's still working fine. However, the chime connector allows the chime wires to deliver constant power to the  Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) and Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage. In addition, without the chime connector, you might experience chime buzzing or unexpected chimes. You might want to call an electrician and check if they can find a way to make one chime connector work with your two indoor chimes.

Check these links for more information.

Best,
Emerson
