Account creation for South Africa

DWaterford
Community Member

I am based in South Africa.

I have 3 nest cameras, a home assistant, a bunch of home minis and most reently purchased two nest doorbells.  I installed my doorbells and they ring in the house on the minis and the home assistant however, I am trying to get access to my doorbell video feed.  In order to do so, I believe I need to share the video feed via my app.  To do so, I am trying to register and open a nest account however, in the country list, South Africa is not listed.

This is strange as I had a nest account a while ago when I was using my nest cameras.  I stopped using these as I gave them to my partner for her shop.

How do I create an account for South Africa?

Hi DWaterford,

Thanks for posting in the community! Sorry to hear that you can’t create a new Nest account in your current location. Checking the list of countries where the Nest devices are available, I can notice that South Africa isn’t included. I’d like to confirm some details to check what can be done:

  1. Where did you purchase these devices from?
  2. When you created your previous Nest account, were you at the same location?

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Axel.

Good day Axel.

I have always been looking out for nest devices so when my local "used equipment" store listed 3 nest cameras, I jumped at them.  Unfortunately, I don't know where or how they got into this country the irst time.  These I did however manage to open a nest account with at the time.

The two nest doorbells I currently have, I purchased via one of South Africa's largest computer retailers (Incredible Connection).

As for my google assistant and the multiple google home minis.  I purcahsed the assistant onliine via ebay I believe.  The minis came via a number of online sources from within South Africa.

I have not moved countries or locations for the last 20 years.

Thanks in advance.

Hi DWaterford,

Thanks for your reply and for sharing this information!

Let's review some information! Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • What are the exact models of your devices (for example, the Nest Cameras: Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam (wired), etc.)?
  • Are you trying to create the Nest account using the Nest app or Google Home app?
  • Do you remember how you created the account the first time?
  • When you are trying to get access to the event video history of your Nest Doorbell, do you see any error messages?

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Good morning,

The original nest cameras were A0005.

I am trying to create an account using the nest app.  I can no longer log into the origiinal one.  I have the google app running on my phone and the camera are visible in that app.  Everything working perfectly there.

I do not remember how I made the first account unfortunately.  Apologies.

And no, there are no errors on the histories of my two doorbells.  Everything happy there.

Thanks for the effort.

Hi DWaterford,

Thanks for your reply and the detailed information. I really appreciate it. I understand that you would like to see the video feed of your Nest Doorbell. I'm here to help. We just want to confirm:

  1. What Nest Doorbell do you have, a wired or battery one?
  2. Is the Nest Doorbell already linked to an existing account?
  3. And from the existing account, do you have access to it?

In the mean time, you can try to recover your existing account by following the below steps:

  1. Open the Nest app or visit https://goo.gle/2qjvVSU.
  2. Tap Sign in with Nest Forgot Password.
  3. Enter your email address. Reset password.
  4. You’ll receive an email to reset your password.

If you've enabled 2-step verification, you’ll need to verify your account to reset your password.

If you don't get the password reset email:

  • Double check that you entered the email address that you used to sign up for your account.
  • Double check that you use a Nest account, not a Google account.
  • Check your spam email folder.
  • Try requesting the reset password email again.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

This doorbell units I have are the battery doorbell units.

The two units are linked to my google home application but not to my nest account as I don't have access to the account at all.I have tried to access that link you provided so I can reset the password but my chrome browser automatically redirects to home.nest.com and then takes me the the account creation page so I can't access the password reset page.

TIA, Darryl.
