Battery Cam - saving clips not allowed

SeeWag

If I capture something worth saving (for sharing on social media), the battery cams do not have the ability to export/save a clip. The other Nest Cams that use Google Nest software can do this very easily.   Having to use the Google Home software is extremely limiting.  If all you need is access to live video, this camera is handy.  BUT, why can we not save a video clip?  Can I return them to get regular Nest Cams?

I can save a video clip just fine. There are several ways to get there, but if you open the event from your event history, either by opening the camera or clicking on the event history icon on the home pages bottom right.  Then click on the link under the video window that is playing the video that says "Event details". Then at the top is the download icon. If you have Google Photos, the downloaded event video will be automatically backed up, and you can easily share from there.

You are thinking Google Nest.  That does not work for the battery cams.  I can see and get clips for my regular camera on Google Nest, but the battery camera does not work that way.

No, I have 7 battery Nest Cams that I just bought and installed a week ago, I do NOT use the Nest App, this is entirely through the Google Home App. Did you even try what I said?

I did, but I looked again and yes, there is a download link.  It was just the same color as the background of the image on the camera so it was hard to see.  Thank you!  I guess they also have to be triggered as an event by Google and not just a clip of live video.  Or have you figured that out, too?

Hi, everyone.
As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.
Thanks

How do I save a clip that is not an event?  I want to save a specific t frame of time, but my camera did not make it an event. Is that possible?

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. If I was in your same position, I know that I would be quite upset that I couldn't save any clips, but I wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. This article here, will explain saving clips, and it states the following:

  • "You can only create video clips from detected events in the video history. You can’t create video clips from footage with no activity. The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be."
  • Unfortunately, the answer is no, unless there is an event, there is not a way for you to save clips without an event.

I apologize for this inconvenience, but please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

GarrettDS
