Battery Doorbell Problems

I hate this doorbell. It has given me nothing but problems. If it didn't already come with the house, I would replace it. The fact that this device doesn't just work astounds me. Instead it is taking weeks of troubleshooting to maybe fix this issue or more likely learn to live with it.

At first I was concerned because I wasn't getting the alerts I thought I should. Turns out the batter doorbell only sends notifications to my phone or Nest Hub, so I always have a device on me now. I get that the doorbell doesn't have speakers inside my home, but that's a really stupid design. Heck, I would buy a speaker just so I don't have to carry my phone all over the house. Terrible user experience.

My more recent issue is that anyone who rings my doorbell can't hear anything. The doorbell doesn't make any noise at all when pushed. And when I try to speak through either my iPhone or Google Nest, the person can't hear me. I may as well be screaming into the void. Even the preset quick answers do nothing. I've done factory resets, disconnected, performed voodoo curses...whatever I could to try to fix this and nothing works.

Do better, Google. I had a lot of respect for you as a company, but this product is a piece of crap. It's clearly a way for you to sell me more items just to be able to use 1. I remember the good old days when a doorbell was just that. You didn't need all kinds of devices to know when someone was at your door. Better hope no one ever comes over.

Hi rj6,

Uh-oh! We're sorry for the trouble. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  1. Did this issue occur out of the box? If not, when did you notice the problem?
  2. Does the issue occur on multiple mobile devices or cameras?
  3. Is the camera in a case or housing?
  4. Has the camera suffered any drops or impacts?
  5. Has the camera been exposed to outdoor weather?
  6. Is the camera exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time?
  7. Hold the mobile device near the camera and make sure both devices are connected to the same network. Then run a network speed test. What are the results of the test?
  8. What’s the cellular signal strength on the mobile device?
  9. What’s the Wi-Fi signal strength on the mobile device?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

  1. The camera was installed when I moved into the house. I don't know if the former owner had this problem, but it has been happening ever since I moved in about 3 weeks ago
  2. I only have the 1 camera, but I've tried talking through my iPhone and Google Hub and it doesn't work
  3. I have no idea what this means. The doorbell looks like it does on the box.
  4. Not to my knowledge
  5. It's an exterior doorbell camera, so yes
  6. Not to my knowledge
  7. Done all of that. Network tests are strong. No issues with any other device
  8. Full cellular signal
  9. Full Wi-Fi signal
