Battery Life Issues - I have tried everything I can find to extend the life between charging

Hello

 

I am charging my cameras almost weekly, all three cameras are using battery power only

I have set my zones, selected the extended battery option, etc

Even within my zones well defined, the camera still goes outside the zones 

My battery life is no where near the "described" expected battery life 

I have to charge these cameras weekly, yes, weekly

I do live on a busy corner, however, I have set the limits to maximize the battery life

The cameras are awesome, the set up is simple, the app is well designed, the alerts are solid and my wife likes the camera, so there!

The batteries - to use a scientific word - "suck"

Great product if you can power directly, however, I am really surprised how quickly these batteries die out

 

please advise

Sorry to hear about your experience with the Nest Cam (battery). Let's get this sorted out. 

 

A few questions — how many activity zones do you have and do they overlap? How many notifications do you get daily? What type of event trigger most of your notifications?

thanks for reaching out

the front door and my driveway / garage camera each have one zone. I created the zones to limit coverage area

the third back yard camera has no zone 

 

I do get a lot of notifications; and that is why I created the zones - to weed out the stuff: like cars and people walking by

 

it doesn’t matter, the camera catch everything within the zone and outside the zones

 

what is alot? Twenty- thirty or more notifications…….

 

I honestly think the only work around is to have the camera directly powered……..

 

however, I would say the descriptions shared on battery life is a little misleading

i read and followed all of the advice google offers to help with short battery life

 

i just didn’t have any luck

As I shared, we like this product, but, the camera have to be connect to power

 

What are your thoughts Steve

Hi there,

 

Thanks for the reply. If your Nest Cam (battery) is focused in a busy area, it can't be helped. You can create an activity zone on the spot you don't want to get notified and uncheck all other motions.

You are correct, the only solution is to have direct power provided to the cameras in my situation 

 

however, I think google should give consumers a better idea that unless you have your cameras in a “no activity zone” no one using these cameras in neighborhoods is going to get weeks / months worth of charge while using the batteries

…..all good, as I shared we like the google product and I will now work on running power to my cameras
