Camera with Battery

I moved and only recently set back up my Nest Thermostat, Indoor camera and doorbell. They are on the nest app and I also migrated to the Google Home app (by force). They all show on the nest app and google home app. I had bought a Nest Cam (battery) and just installed it. Am I correct that this type of camera can only be installed on the Google home app? I want the 24/7 video, but it seems like that is only on the Nest App and since this camera can not be added to the Nest App, then that is not possible. Does the Google Home App offer 24/7 video? If not, it is a bummer that I will need to purchase a new camera system from a vendor that offers this function.  Why did google buy Nest to downgrade the options?

We have had a 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Camera since Sept. 2021, plugged in with the optional power cable. It can only be installed in the Google Home app. However, since it is plugged in and therefore running on household current, and since we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, it records 24/7.

The ability to record 24/7 has nothing to do with the Google Nest app or the Google Home app. Rather, it depends on whether you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription and whether your camera or doorbell is running on household current rather than battery power.

The 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Camera cannot record 24/7 if it is not plugged in. The 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Doorbell cannot record 24/7 even if it is wired to your existing doorbell wiring because "the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge." (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989)

Thanks for the clarification on how it works.

Yes, the Nest Cam (battery) can only be set up in the Google Home app, which does not offer 24/7 video recording like the Nest app. Unfortunately, Google Home lacks some features found in the Nest app. If continuous recording is essential, you might need to consider a different camera system that supports this feature. It's frustrating that the options have changed since Google's acquisition of Nest.
